I am able to reproduce this in 21w42a. This ticket relates to MC-235986.

The summary and description should be made more clear that this particular issue is mainly about transparent blocks that should be invisible as they are out of view distance but instead become visible due to the overlaying name plate.
Transparent blocks being visible through name plates is not a bug per se.
[Mod] Michael Wobst, you are more than welcome to edit the summary and description to reflect this issue accordingly.
Just add "at render distance" after "transparent blocks"
All done, thanks user-f2760.
Can confirm in 21w44a, also affects clouds just as in MC-237698.
