This is a more general case of MC-84846, as generally I'm throwing eggs to get chicks to spawn and since 15w31c I've had to stand in the chicken compound.
As an additional note, I was running either 15w39b or 15w39c this week and I noted that the falling chick pushed me out of the way.

Cannot confirm. Chick spawns at egg breaking point.
Ok, I'm confused. Can reproduce problem in my survival world, (eggs seem to be coming out of mouth) but when I open a creative copy it works as normal. I'll try and work out what the difference is (it's not the gamemode, just tried that!)
Ok, moving the torches from my offhand fixed the problem, although just moving a torch to the offhand on the creative world doesn't cause it. I'll come back when I can reproduce on a creative world.
Can also not reproduce with torches in offhand in survival.
Agreed, moving torches back to the off-hand in survival didn't cause problem to re-appear. I'll try and see what triggers this, but at the moment I'm out of eggs.
