Find the gold key, the nameless kingdom section of the desert temple. I picked up the key and i got hit so I dropped it. One of the enemies picks it up and get crushed by the trap doors thatvtry to crush you. The key despawned waited around for 20 minutes to see if it respawns. it did not had to restart the entire level.

i got the key for the golden gate headed back into combat then before i set off to the gate noticed that the key was gone from my back and no where to be seen
the Keys in minecraft dungeons do in general tend to magically disappear. When taht happens there is no other way than skip the door taht requires a kay through for example a bug or another way or resetting the level.
