Unable to update native launcher
I can't open my single player world, because of message: "Unable to update native launcher".
I reported this on minecraft.net, but Nova "inkycatz" Barlow (Microsoft (Minecraft)) answered:

Before you try to redirect me to "the community", please consider:
- I am not a member of a server, so discord is not an option (can't send messages)
- I bought this game directly from Mojang, not from "the community"
Steps I have taken:
-disabling anti-virus
-uninstalling and an attempt to reinstall, though then I get the same error message
-uninstalling, downloading Minecraft.exe, though then I get the same error message
-updating java

Windows 10, i5-6600K, nVidia GTX1060, 32GB memory, fast DSL pair-bonded internet, java

Moved to the correct project (Minecraft Launcher).
Please follow this guide to find the Minecraft data folder. In it, you should find multiple files, including launcher_log.txt and nativelog.txt. Please attach both of them. If one or both are missing, please tell.

I just tried your solution, but now installation fails immediately.
While looking through the launcher_profiles.json file, I noticed there's only an old username in there, not my current one.
This never was a ploblem before (as far as I know), but maybe it's related?
I can send you the file, but not publicly.
Installation? What are you doing that is failing?
Anyway, you should have a launcher_log.txt file that you can attach. You can also email me the profiles file at slicedlime at mojang.com.
Intallation / download of the launcher, that's what's been going on the whole time!
I added the new launchr_log.txt file yesterday, but I'll include it in a mail along with the launcher_profiles.json.
Any updates on this issue? I've been getting this error everytime there's an update to the Launcher. I found out that the issue occurs when deleting the older version of the launcher (MinecraftLauncher.exe.backup); as soon as I delete it manually it is able to update normally.
Actually, after playing every day for about five years, this might have been just what I needed.
I removed minecraft, ended all minecraft related subscribtions and picked up some old hobbies.
Somehow I never realized what a time consuming, social structure breaking, senseless adiction a game like minecraft can be.
And with you guys apparently discouraging automation to a certain degree, the game consumes more and more time.
Maybe I'll play again in a couple of years, but for now I'm glad things went the way they went.
