MCL-12491"Sorry! Make sure you are online and try again"
Had this issue after downloading the launcher and attempting to log in. Tried pretty much all the other solutions given in other threads with similar issues. Seems to be something with authentication, even though I am using the proper version of Minecraft.
Attached below is the launcher log.
Environment
Windows 8.1. Latest version of Java. No anti-virus except for Windows Defender.

Solved by deleting %SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
That's not really a solution we can spread as you need your host file.
It's more likely the issue was caused by something in your hosts file, hence why removing the file all together fixed your problem.
