Game crashes directly after launch (caused by Optifine)
This issue is caused by Optifine.
If you are using the beta version of the Minecraft launcher, and when you launch OptiFine it crashes, Here is the fix: https://streamable.com/zliaut.
The reason why this bug is happening is that OptiFine is looking for a minimum version of the launcher (2.2.1) The beta version is 2.2.2.

When trying to launch optifine, the game crashes immediately and i get this error: Exit code 0. This hasn't happened before with the previous launcher versions (before Feb 24th 2021), but when I tried today (Feb 24th 2021) it just doesn't work. When i use the normal (unmodded) version of minecraft, the game launches as normal.

If you are using optifine. It could be also that Optifine is tricking you and instead it is trying to crash your game. Not make it faster

I can confirm this as i too cannot load my game w OF when i could when i went to stream the new 20w08a snapshot on Twitch

OptiFine issues aren't tracked on the bug tracker, they can be reported on sp614x's github page.

If you're on a mac, go to settings in the launcher and uncheck use beta launcher. Restart the launcher and it should be able to run.
Thanks Henry for providing some assistance here.
Mojang does not develop OptiFine so we can't fix this bug. Either follow Henry's fix and/or report this to OptiFine developers.
We've done a minor tweak to allow OptiFine to still work as before. Update should now be available to users that have opted in for beta versions of the Launcher
OptiFine has released a fix that also fixes this
