In the pc version it is possible to place a single item in each of a hopper's storage spaces. For instance 4 signs, each in a different space. In pe all four signs are transferred to the one space. This makes sorting difficult.

This, unfortunately, works as intended, until PC crafting is added to the game. Use the workaround in my comment above to avoid this problem.
It is still broken in beta 6
Does this bug affect 0.14.0 final release? If so please respond.

This isn't a bug, it's just the way the MCPE inventory is designed. To place the same items in different slots, name them different things.
Yes, it's still behaves the same in the final release. As Kaleb says, is it supposed to be that way? Renaming items works but it's expensive.
This must currently be an intended behavior but since Tommaso mentioned drag & drop and PC crafting, this problem may eventually go away in the future.
The way I see it, it's more realistic for signs to fall into the same identical spaces into the compartment from where they were placed in the hopper.
