MCPE-170890Pressing 'Enter' in chat doesn't send messages or commands on Xbox
Pressing 'Enter' in chat doesn't send the message / command that you typed. This forces you to manually press the 'Send' button in the bottom right every time you're done typing. This happens on controller as well as an external keyboard.
Observed results:
When pressing the enter key, the text input field is simply deselected instead of the message being sent like it does on other platforms
Expected results:
When the enter key is pressed, the entered text should be sent instead of the field being deselected
As some other commenters also mentioned, this is an issue caused by the 'Performance Update' for the Xbox version on the 5th October, 2022.

I just attempted to reproduce in 1.21.0.24 Preview on Xbox and my message immediately sent after I pressed the 3 lines button on my controller, is the issue back again on keyboards with the enter button? It's like we can never have nice things...

To add to this problem, when using an external keyboard and mouse on xbox when trying to type out a command or just a simple chat message; the tab button does not cycle through the options anymore because the xbox internal keyboard keeps popping up(this was not an issue in 1.18 or any previous versions), the up arrow does not cycle through previously typed out messages or commands anymore because the internal xbox keyboard keeps popping up(this also was not an issue in 1.18 or any previous versions), when you go into the chat overlay: you cant instantly start typing, instead you have to press "enter" on the keyboard or go down to the textbox in order to pop up the xbox keyboard to start typing, in 1.18 or previous versions all you had to do was go into the chat and instantly start typing even if the xbox internal keyboard was not already up. In conclusion, these "features" that mojang added to the chat system for xbox keyboard and mouse players was NEVER needed and is a massive problem for people who use commands.
To help get this reproduced;
Observed Results: Whatever you've written in-chat does not get sent after pressing the 3 lines button or enter key, and you instead have to press the send button in the bottom right corner of the chat menu.
Expected Results: Whatever you've written in-chat should automatically get sent upon pressing the 3 lines button or enter key.
This is much more of an issue with a physical keyboard however, as you have to go all the way to the bottom right instead of pressing the X button
As of Sunday, March 17th 2024: this issue still has not gotten any type of feedback from the devs. It has been around a year now, this problem is still occurring and can be replicated. Several players in this community including me have been waiting for some type of feedback at all and so far all we can say is that this post has been forgotten. After the update that ruined the chat system the community responsible for utilizing the chat system on xbox for its intended purpose has deplinished. As a part of the community, the update that had changed the chat system has made me not even want to touch the game because the way I personally have fun is by creating magical things with commands and now it has gotten incredibly difficult to do things like that now since 70% of the features that have been placed there to make using the chat system easy to utilize have been removed. I hope mojang can read this and give something for us, the players who want to create. On xbox.

As of Wednesday April 3rd 2024: a partial fix was released, this fixed the problem with having to manually press the send button at the bottom right. This is greatly appreciated mojang! But the other problems such as tab, and up arrow still have incorrect functions, this is noticeable when you compare what tab and uparrow do with the windows 10 version of the game. In the windows version when tab is pressed it cycles through the command options that show on screen, and also on the windows version of the game when the uparrow is pressed it pastes the text of your previous message into the chat box. These features that I mentioned that occur on the windows version DO NOT still work on the xbox version when using a keyboard and mouse. These features that I mentioned however did work as features on the xbox version before the update that removed them. We are not asking for new features, we are asking for the features that were once in the game that got ruined by the chat system rework update that are in all other bedrock versions. @CookieCft on Xbox, pressing enter on my keyboard will not send the message like it did in 2022, I have to click on the send message button with my cursor to send the message
I'm still able to successfully send messages in chat with both the 3 lines button on a controller and the enter button on an external keyboard in Preview 1.21.0.24 on Xbox
@Nanyo Business just so you're aware the fix is not out to the main game yet and won't be until 1.21 full release.
