gatharian added (from MCPE-20991)
I'm having 2 different problems.
- The game difficulty setting is not kept when you exit your world.
- While in world, I cannot select the game difficulty "Hard" until I have selected the difficulties Normal or Easy first.
Steps to Reproduce
- Create a new world.
- Set the game difficulty to Peaceful.
- Create the world.
- While you're in the world change your game difficulty to Hard.
- You may not be able to select the game difficulty until you select Easy or Normal first.
- Once the game difficulty is set open the menu again.
- Notice that the game difficulty is correctly set to "Hard".
- Close your world.
- Edit your world.
- Notice the game difficulty is set to Peaceful again!

Thank you for your report!

We were unable to reproduce the problem you are describing in the latest version.
- Please verify which version you are using, as the 1.1.0.1 beta is not currently available to iOS users
- Also, remember a 5% chance doesn't guarantee that one in 20 pearls will spawn an endermite (that's not how probability works)
- There is also a bug where changing the difficulty doesn't function, so you might want to rule that issue out before further testing (see ticket

Probably the same root issue as MCPE-20719, but I'll leave it as a separate-but-related ticket.

Verification builds:
1.1.0.4 Retail
1.1.0.5 Retail
Summary:
You cannot change the difficulty from the in game menu, while cheats are disabled.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Open a Survival world, without cheats enabled
- Open Settings
- Try to select a different Difficulty
Observed Results:
You are unable to change the difficulty. If you enable cheats from this menu, you can then adjust the difficulty, but this spoils user experience if you want to gain achievements.
Expected Results:
You should be able to change the difficulty from the in-game settings.
Screenshots/Videos attached: Yes
Notes:
You can however change the difficulty from the main world selection menu.
Relates to an earlier, similar issue at MCPE-20719.
Please do not mark unreleased versions as affected.
You don't have access to them yet.
Confirmed for 1.1.0.0 - changing the difficulty doesn't seem to work, and hostile mobs still exist and spawn even in 'Peaceful'.
I've tested around this and it seems that when changing difficulty level "in game" the change does not take effect.
Editing the world difficulty level from the Worlds tab works before entering a world from the list.
However, once set and the world is loaded, any change to difficulty made by invoking the menu (back button on an android device), selecting settings and modifying the difficulty will not take effect.
This is true for transition from any difficulty to any other difficulty be it Peaceful, Easy, Normal and Hard to any different difficulty level.
Since it is confirmed I won't have to post another report on it.
Reopening - This is not fixed for Survival only worlds, no cheats enabled. You still cannot change the difficulty in-game.Closing this as the bug that persists is slightly different, please see
