I am the owner of the realm.
I personally have no lag issues on realms HOWEVER my friends have horrible lag. They're all running systems that are better or on par with my own. The lag makes combat in survival unplayable, causes some building issues with block lag and rubber-banding often makes movement unenjoyable, especially with the elytra.
My players all will only be running Minecraft and discord at once, neither of which should be particularly taxing. They're running at the lowest graphics settings and I've done all I can think of to make the realm as gentle as possible on their systems but everyone save for myself is experiencing it.
I've seen many lag-related posts on here but none seemed to show a difference between realm owner and the players so that would be why. But I'm super not happy paying $8 if my friends can't have fun on my realm.
Environment
My OS is windows 10 and its on an HP Envy all-in-one, so not super great
I have also run on macOS Sierra on an early 2015 MacBook pro. It runs the same for me on both machines.
My realm's users all run the same OS on significantly better machines.

I'm having the EXACT same issue, it's completely unplayable. I bought it for me and friends to play, but it's so incredibly awful and PAINFUL to play, that we dont have fun. The worst part of all is that it's only about 3 days old and no one wants to play anymore, at this rate swapping to a 3rd party server hoster might be what I'm going to do.
I'm surprised this isn't the highest priority ticket. Does this not affect every realm? Is there something our realm needs to do to work around the issue? Our realm's lag increases with every member that joins and it has nothing to do with Mob caps as our realm owner will regularly go into peaceful mode and the lag remains. While this lag is occurring mob spawning basically stops even when we aren't in peaceful.
I'm having the same problem with a realms server running 1.15.1 where the owner's account does not experience lag but the other accounts do. It started suddenly about a week ago. I tried logging in to both accounts on the exact same setup and even then the owner account did not experience lag but the other account did. There was a clear difference in the two accounts. The owner was running fine with mobs and entities functioning properly, where the other account was completely unplayable with mobs completely frozen, lag-backs all the time and entities not going where they're supposed to. Still on both accounts the player has 100+ fps all the time.
I filmed it so you can see, if that helps. However, I can't upload the videos here because of the filesize but I can share them on email or something if that would help.
If anyone has any ideas for fixes that would be greatly appreciated.
I am the owner on my realm, and playing on Windows 10 bedrock edition. It was mostly fine (with occasional huge lag spikes) until a few days ago. Now the lag is so bad the game is totally unplayable. Entities like mobs move in very glitchy sudden jumps and frozen for seconds at a time, redstone machines do not work, normal actions like eating, mining blocks, firing bow are very delayed and the actions and sounds lag by one to two seconds. This occurs even with only 1 player on the realm.
If it is not fixed I will not renew the paid realms subscription and will have to take the world offline - it is totally unplayable currently.
I KNOW BRO and its not just on realms it happens on servers and just all of multiplayer. i really dont want to play the game if im going to keep freezing and dyeing just because of lag
Also i turned everything down to the lowest settings possible and it still lags
omg i just realized this was on java. it also happens on bedrock super bad
optifine downloaded in the version?
Experiencing this same issue on Nintendo Switch. Has nothing to do with my internet. Sometimes it causes me to not even be able to access the realm. Sometimes it boots me from the realm. Really frustrating. I've tried archiving and redownloading, but it makes no difference whatsoever.

Minecraft Realms for Java Edition has received a lot of updates and fixes over the last two years, so this issue has probably already been fixed in the meantime (e.g. because it was a temporary outage or an issue with the base game).
Since this bug report has not been updated since at least two years, please let us know if this is still an issue in current versions of Minecraft and update the bug report if applicable. If this is no longer an issue, please let us know as well. Thanks!
