We just had this same exception occur. The coordinates are located at a redstone timer that was opening a trapdoor to let a water stream drop down. crash-2019-12-09_14.48.05-server.txt contains the full crash report.
Happy New Year; We were greeted with another one of these today... crash-2020-01-01_20.06.13-server.txt
is attached.
It was working correctly yesterday, and today the launcher showed it was updating and now it's showing as pictured. I'm running MacOS 11.2.3 (Big Sur)

This also happens with MacOS Big Sur (11.6.1). Adding "-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true" to the JVM args did not help.
This is also happening with Launcher version macOS 12.4.0 2.3.173. I found these errors in the launcher.log.
[Error: 2022-05-24 00:59:13.968804: ClientStarter.cpp(1209)] Platform mac-os doesn't have the desired component java-runtime-gamma.
[Error: 2022-05-24 00:59:13.968855: ClientStarter.cpp(1210)] Failed to select java-runtime release to download

I just tried and it works with the JDK 17 I already had installed on my Mac.
openjdk version "17.0.1" 2021-10-19
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 17.0.1+12-39)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 17.0.1+12-39, mixed mode, sharing)
I did a bit more digging in. For some reason, the launcher won't download the "runtime/java-runtime-gamma" folder to the existing .minecraft folder I had for years. When I renamed my .minecraft folder so the launcher would create a new one, it downloaded the "runtime/java-runtime-gamma" folder when I launched 1.19-Pre 4 and started the game normally.
For kicks and grins, I copied the "runtime/java-runtime-gamma" to my original .minecraft folder and renamed it back. The launcher then behaves as expected using the "default" java executable and starts the game.
This is on MacOS Monterey 12.4
It's happening for me on MacOS 13.5.2. Also tried reinstalling the launcher.
