Launcher crashes immediately on macOS
Update 2023-09-15T00:31:23Z: dragging the Minecraft launcher to the Trash and re-installing it from Minecraft.dmg and "launching" it resulted in a fresh download of files (3 hours after initial report) and a successful launch of the launcher. So it looks like the problem has been resolved. Thanks!
(Nice to know they test this stuff thoroughly on macOS 😜)
Original report left for posterity:
Minecraft Launcher as of 2023-09-14 reported that it had an update ready. I stopped and restarted the app so it could apply the update.
However, after application, the launcher no longer launches 😉. It fails on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs (tested with macOS 13.4 and 13.5.2).
I have no idea if the "Affects version" is correct, as I would usually look at the launcher window to determine that—and, of course, I cannot even get a launcher window.
It crashes immediately with:

Thank you! I did see MCL-23741, but I do not think it's related because in this case the launcher works fine unless it's not connected to a network, and this involved some other behaviors like the incessant restart after the failure, which made the laptop unusable until it was rebooted or the user was forced to log out. I'll check and see if I can repeat it after following the fix steps in MCL-23741.
As per MCL-23741, if you still have a problem, please uninstall the launcher, then reinstall and restart your computer. Then try to boot the launcher.
This ticket will automatically reopen when you reply.
I'm having this same issue. Began this evening when the launcher tried to update. We played without a problem yesterday. Here is from my console:
I've tried rebooting my machine, uninstalling and reinstalling Minecraft, clearing the Minecraft folder out of application support... not sure what else to try.
Note that this is happening on another Mac in the house as well. Same issue.
Same issue here, when opening the launcher via terminal it appears to search for multiple possible file paths for Frameworks/Chromium Embedded Framework.framework/Chromium Embedded Framework before giving up and aborting
Same issue as well. Two macs, neither can open the launcher. Worked fine yesterday.
Same issue
It's happening for me on MacOS 13.5.2. Also tried reinstalling the launcher.

Seems to work for me now.
I was able to solve this by re-installing java with this: https://www.azul.com/downloads/?version=java-17-lts&os=windows&architecture=x86-64-bit&package=jre#zuluI first tried updating it via homebrew, but that didn't resolve the issue. Only this seemed to work.EDIT: maybe this didn't actually resolve it. Seems it's been resolved for others with no change.
Update: if you are having this issue, there should be another update from 10 minutes ago that resolves this issue.
@lelopez please be advised that the launcher team has fixed this issue. What you did, did not fix the issue. The update was resolved while you were attempting to fix it.
Hi!
Does this issue occur to anybody else?
The update should fix the issue, if you still have a problem please uninstall the Launcher, then reinstall and restart your computer. Then please try to boot the Launcher.
I tried to install the update but it didn't work
This issue was persistent on my mac even after reinstalling the launcher. I found that if I took everything out of the .minecraft folder, then opened the launcher, it would launch. Then i just put everything back in.
CaptainNimbus does this mean it worked out for you too?
I am now having this problem, started on the 15th, have been struggling with this since. Any suggestions?
