This started with 1.4.3. When you are creating a world, (or re-recreating it), the player gets stuck in the block that spawns underneath them. Re-spawning does not exhibit this issue.
What I expected to happen was...:
I expected to spawn in the new world after the creation screen and be able to move to my next objective. What actually happened was...:
I spawned in the world and was stuck 'bobbing' or otherwise 'floating' as if I were stuck on the block below me. You have to destroy the blockbelow youin order to regain your movement.Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start a new world
2. Watch map load really slowly until you finally have land to stand on
3. Your character is stuck bobbing in the block below you and it has to be destroyed to continueOther Notes, probably important:
I noticed on my computer when loading Minecraft, the map initially used to generate instantly in prior versions. Instead, this time it seemed like it starts with a totally blank world with just a sky, no chunk and then the map suddenly generates a few seconds later. In fact, there was one time I generated and kept falling and taking 'wall damage' until I finally died. Eventually I re-spawned and the issue did not reproduce so I can only assume it has to do with laggy map/chunk generation. Most of the time this happens, I just get stuck and somehow 'tethered' to the block below me. It's almost like my character is wanting to fall, but the block beneath is holding it in somehow? It's an odd animation because it doesn't appear as though you are stuck in the block below you.
**This doesn't occur 100% of the time, but does most times. It appears to only happen when the map takes a longer than normal time to generate.
**I added a video to show what I was talking about

When spawning after creating a new world, player is bouncing/bobbing or otherwise stuck in the block underneath or above them. Must destroy it to continue.

Random duplication of torch graphic (particularly the flame) appearing in random places all over the level. Seems to increase with 'relatively' nearby torches. Not sure which axis they tend distribute... it seems to vary some. The first bits of torch light the video were occurring at a diagonal. Sometimes it's a flicker every now and then, seems very random, but there are times when there are 'sprites' of flame duplicates, about 5-6, perhaps depending on how many torches are nearby. There is an example in the first part of the video... look for the arrow showing it and watch the flickers. There seem to be more flickers depending on how many torches are actually concentrating in that section. In this case, the 'sprites' appear to be happening above where the torches up, so perhaps y-axis distribution in that case.
What I expected to happen was...:
Start a fresh world and not see torch flame graphics randomly appearing out of no where in environment when torches are nearby. What actually happened was...:
Started a fresh world and flame is randomly visible in environment as more torches are placed. So far can't tell the correlation with placement of torches, except it seems to occur more often and with more "sprites" (flame graphics) flickering when more torches are placed. Sometimes it is directly in front of you in multiples, sometimes far off.Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start a new world in Survival
2. Walk around, create torches everywhere and place them in caves anywhere... try maybe lower caves(especially behind walls, different elevations, etc)
3. See torches duplicate...Note:
The seed for my world is "4003446118472000559" so if it is easier to test using that data, there it is. The place where I was seeing the artifacts is in same valley as the spawn-point. There are two caves, one descending, one ascending... I seemed to get the most in the bottom cave where I had a lot of torches lighting the way.
Uploaded video showing what I'm talking about
Hope that helps.
I just noticed there is a duplicate... sorry, still learning to use this!!

Yep.
Me too Hubertus
I'm not on Linux, but I'm getting this issue with Windows 7 Ult x64. Particularly the 0.0.0.0 when I open to LAN... it's frustrating
I`m having this problem too. When I open to LAN in win7 64, the IP is 0.0.0.0:port. Says connection refused when someone tries to join
I'm having this issue in Win7 x64. IP says 0.0.0.0:xxxxx when I go to try to open to lan. Other ppl cannot connect, connection says refused. If you guys want, I can get some IP information together when I get home... weve never had problems before.
Same as DrRed, I am having the exact same problem in the screenshots. My java version is 1.7.0_07 though
java -version
java version "1.7.0_07"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_07-b10)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.3-b01, mixed mode)
My husband cannot join my LAN and says connection refused but it is findable. We switched to the Server.exe in the meantime... works fine.

I've had this issue too while playing vanilla server. When I walk up closer to it, it seems to drop back down. I haven't confirmed it has to do with login, relogin, but it seems to happen after I've left boats lying around someplace... sometimes they fall into water too and float back up.
Issue is back. Now the blocks turn black ocassionally when harvesting
I have this issue as well. I was using 1.8.7. I went back to 1.8.4 thinking since that is the last version I played, but this is the first time I've played Single Player in a while. My render distance was set to 32 and I didn't have any issues when running MC Vanilla Server. I lowered the render distance to 10 and the issue is mostly solved. The CPU does seem to be running quite high for what it normally runs (50~70% with all chunks loaded).
How I produced the issue:
I created a new world using a custom seed while my render distance was set to 32 chunks. It takes a few minutes to load the world from "Downloading terrain" screen and seems "stuck. Once loaded, I would drop to the bottom of the world. After a minute or so (or much longer) it would load me back up to the surface, but only some of the chunks would be loaded... I would be able to walk off the "cliff" so to speak where the chunk stopped and float to the bottom being able the side(s) of entire chunks floating in air.
My FPS is fine, it's mainly the high CPU load. It is running 90%+ during the beginning when all the chunks are loading and everything is "hung". It is running 50~70% the other times which seems pretty high for what it normally runs. FPS is in the 200-300 range.
When I turn the "render distance" to 10 it seems to be fine. Adjusting this slider though while in a world pretty much Minecraft to the point I have to force it to close out. I'm sure if I waited 5 minutes, it would load, but still...
This is a newly built machine using on-board and a dated NVidia PCIE graphics card. I've had no problems in the past with this setup and the video drivers are up to date. The drivers are up to date on both. I am using three monitors, but MC is only open on the "main" screen. I have been using three screens for a while.
Here are my specs:
Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40 Ghz Quad
Windows 8.1 (64bit)
SSD drive
Gigabyte B85M-D3H
16GB of RAM
2X Video card with three monitors at HD resolution (1080p):
Intel HD Graphics 4600
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 PCI-E (fairly old, but it does what I need it to do)
I can attest to having the same problem except in my world it was a 2x1x2 space. I couldn't place anything. Even tried /fill to place stone in that area. Same problem as the OP otherwise.
I did the force crash and attached a log here. My version is 1.9.2 and I am playing on Vanilla server on localhsot. I attached the dump to this comment.
When I use the /say @e[r=5] command, it said my nickname and cow. Suddenly a cow was in my spot behind me and it moved out of the way and I was able to fill the space with blocks agian. Hurray!
But where did that cow come from? I even dug all around that area including underneath before hand just in case there was a block or hidden mob and it didn't move it apparently. It happened once before this and it resolved itself. I dug around it to see if I could trigger the "space" and it fixed it for some reason.
