My Villagers, animals and mobs in general are despawn because of the edges of chunks. This bug is old but continuous in newer versions.The villagers from my survival singleplayer world who are near the chunks borders are disappearing, the villagers were labeled with a nametag and were in a safe, well-lit place.
My villagers who disappeared weretrapped in a place with good lighting and they were tagged with nametags.
The path I took before he disappeared was from my house (which is next to the villagers' place) to the gold farm which is basically about 100 blocks away. I stayed there a whole day and went back to my house to sleep and the next day I went to check on the villagers and one of them disappeared, just the one in a chunk border.

I tested it and yes, his pathfind is really broken. It also occurs in survival mode, but it's more noticeable in creative mode, because in survival he is more concerned with killing you (XD).
