I feel that this problem is related to the new launcher. Whenever I launch with this launcher no sound is audible. Whenever I launch another version other than Minecraft 1.6.1 with the newest launcher my Minecraft audio fails to initialize and does not show up in my volume mixer.
I have provided my DxDiag and error report in the attached files below

I have restarted my PC, I have updated OpenAL and LWJGL all to no success I have also searched and found a solution on the forums that didn't fix my issue.

I have found a solution to this problem on the forums but it did not work for me you might want to try it out.
