This actually happens to me a lot in multiplayer, the same thing happens with the respawn button. I think it might have something to do with chunks unloading being visible and having to do it so fast.
It obviously is after the actual occurrence, so I don't really see how it could matter, but here it is: (Sorry, but I'm not quite sure how to use spoilers.)

It's something about the multiplayer chat being shown, try switching it around a few times.

I think the reporter may have mobs simply left over from the night,seeing as one of his other "bugs" was not being able to leash hostile mobs.
