When a comparator is facing away from a chest with something in it, and you right-click the comparator to make the third redstone torch deactivate, the back two torches will blink off sometimes. Also, the comparator will switch to the unpowered state, as can be seen be using f3.
In 1.8.1 pre-release 3, it only blinks when the third torch is being deactivated. Also, if you press f3, you can see that it also switches to the unpowered state during the brief time that it's dark.

I wanted to know what the problem was, not if someone else had this problem because that doesn't help.
SOLUTION! My Minecraft was doing the same thing so I started to try to figure out what the problem was, after some experiments I eventually got to deleting the options.txt file then it worked after that!
This has not happened since 1.6. You can close this report if you want to.
