People can't see my skin because my username is too long. (Sounds weird, but true)
When I'm on certain servers, my friend, caboj8, says he can't see my skin, even though I can see it on me. I started typing to people asking if they can see my skin, but they tell me I look like Steve. I looked at some other people who have their names cut off like mine (probably because it is too long) and I can't see their skin either, they look like Steve. Everybody who has a short name has a custom skin, not sure if this has to do with anything, but maybe. Please Help if it is not a bug.

I am pretty sure that there is a 16 character limit for usernames, but I am not sure.

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
No answer on querry, assuming no longer an issue.
Please attach screenshots of yourself in F5 mode and please force a crash by pressing F3 + C for 10 seconds while ingame and attach the crash report here.
The crash report is unspectacular besides that both your Java and graphics driver are outdated:
Update at http://www.java.com/ and http://www.amd.com/
Please attach screenshots of yourself in F5 mode
What happens if you open http://skins.minecraft.net/MinecraftSkins/<yourverylongplayername>.png in a browser ? Do you see your skin ?
I think I see the issue here, It looks like the server is giving colour codes to usernames and therefore going over the character limit.
There is no character limit, the url and player names are strings:
I've got the exact same problem here, the last 9 falls of and I'm steve. The problem for me is on the Herobrine servers and mc-war servers.
Can you reproduce this on an unmodded server? It could be the server's fault for sending you the wrong username.
Got a pic here, http://postimage.org/image/5z1sx9ks7/
My actual username is protonjonsa1399. Thanks for your time!
But I can see my skin, others can't.
I've got that to sometimes, not on this server though.
Bukkit or vanilla server ?
I don't know, it's not my server, how can I tell?
Vanilla

I think there are nametag limitations of 16. Not sure though
In fact there is a limit while decoding the server packet:
But both names are not longer than 16 characters:
To the moderators, is it okay if this is opened again? Having issues with this myself. My username is 'too long' to show my skin. On the TAB list and above my head it doesn't show the 8. This happens on my vanilla server I host for a few friends and on Bukkit servers (example: mc.hypixel.net). On any server, I can see my skin but no one else can.
I spent a little while yesterday on servers looking for players with "Steve?" skins and long usernames - found a few. Using skins.minecraft.net I found that most of them do have skins. The skin server was up too.
I can post screenshots if needed.
Reopened.
Update: Others could see my skin when I logged onto my vanilla server in a world that I didn't have teams using coloured usernames.
Re-commenting: In servers where people with long usernames have coloured names, they show as Steve.
Yes, whenever you add color codes, for example: "&3" to a username, it takes uses up two username slots, thus forcing a skin from that name. In my case it's a steve, but there has been a time where I was forced to use a joker skin as well. My IGN is "TheCrazyCrafter5", so color codes remove two slots from my name, because the maximum is 16, resulting in "TheCrazyCrafte" with a default skin(It's really annoying). If you could somehow add extra slots for color codes, I, and i'm sure many other, would be so happy. This issue seems trivial, but as an avid Minecraft Multiplayer, it's sad to have people call you a noob, based solely off your skin and be more swayed to assume you're a hacker, since i'm also a generally good player. Thanks for your time...
I get the same problem, my name is 15 letters but it only displays 14 above my head. I think the game takes that as making me robotchicken33 in the skin server instead of robotchicken337
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 1.7.2 / Launcher version 1.3.4 ? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
Yeah, I believe this still is an issue, Talven. I appear to get this when certain color codes are introduced. However, there are other times where my name can have color codes. I stated why the issue occurs in the comment above, so there no need to explain further, but i believe the only way this bug can be fixed is if the devs change something with the nametags or color codes.
seems fixed
I've got the same problem. My username is 16 characters long, and only I see my skin on my screen. But for some reason, there's one server where everyone sees my skin. A few of my friends have the same problem. Hopefully there'll be a Name-Changing update, or at least some bug fix for this. I love making and wearing skins, but it's a shame for only one person to see them.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 1.8.1 Prerelease 3 / Launcher version 1.5.3 or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
No response for over a year.
