Please note, I selected Survival for the question above, but this also affects Creative, and any other mode
I have played Minecraft since .5 beta, since v.8 Beta I have used two mods: Misa texture pack (which requires HD patch), and the Zombe's Mod, these are established mods, with updates every-time the game updates, and I have never experienced any errors with them outside of user error. Forgive the history, but I wanted to establish the fact that I know how to use these mods, and they are good working mods.
Now since 1.4.2 I have experienced an unusual error, I have YET to update to 1.4.4 as zombe is not available for 1.44 yet. However I have tested using the zombe mod with and without Misa, tried Misa with and without zombe mod...the error is not with zombe. I rebuilt the Minecraft.jar every-time, making fresh, clean, installs of each of the mods together and apart, so again I do not believe the problem is with zombe.
The problem appears to be with the HD textures, and while I can play the game with the HDpatch installed (no texture pack, or a lower rez pack used), upon changing my texture pack settings the game always and almost immediately crashes.
I understand that Mojang cannot directly support all the texture packs out there, but as these packs are highly used, and this perticular pack is very popular, I find it odd to be experiecing a bug, especially when other friends of mine haven't experienced the same errors. I am hoping your team can help me understand and reslove this error.
I have already tried to reinstall minecraft, reinstall java, recreate my server, tested with and without mods, (again the only mod I use is zombe and it doesn't appear to be a factor. Lastly, I have tried using the HDpatch that came out with 1.4.2, and the new hdpatch that came out with 1.4.4..... I am uncertain to the next step, below is a log of the crash.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. I am uncertain how to reproduce this error, I am uncertain how it is happening.Log of crash:

— END ERROR REPORT 10dc3b49 ----------Please note, I selected Survival for the question above, but this also affects Creative, and any other mode

Update graphics card drivers
This applies to the people who read this ticket after they have created a duplicate of it.
There is nothing Mojang can do to remedy these problems but you can!
You need to reinstall/update/fix your graphic-card drivers and try again.
Howto: http://help.mojang.com/customer/portal/articles/928493-error-bad-video-card-driver
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Minecraft ran two days ago, and suddenly won't even reach the title screen on 1.3 or 1.4pre. Update graphics card drivers
This applies to the people who read this ticket after they have created a duplicate of it.
There is nothing Mojang can do to remedy these problems but you can!
* You need to reinstall/update/fix your graphic-card drivers and try again.
* If you are running custom Java arguments to increase RAM, then remove them.

Talven81, are you sure that mobs and players suffocating inside the worldborder is intended?

The rendering distance is definitely a workaround. However closest chunks to the player should be loaded and processed first. At the moment it seems to be random with no priority on distance from the player allowing visibility underground at long distances. This could be used as a cheat on multiplayer servers.

On a personal note, it's not that hard, and easier to set up and configure than many game servers out there.

The correct action should be as follows:
12w40a Oct. 4, 2012: The left-click action will no longer open doors, pull levers, push buttons or open trapdoors. Use the right mouse button!
If you are still able to open doors by striking them, then that is what should be fixed according to the update notes.
Confirmed, reproducible. Breaking doors in creative mode do not result in a door drop if struck at the bottom of the door, but results in a drop when struck at the top. This happens regardless of the tool being used, and does not seem to have an effect in survival mode.
This is not a bug.
12w40a Oct. 12, 2012: Slimes now spawn in Swamp biomes at low light level.
Pre-1.4 (may still apply to non-swamp biomes): Slimes are found only in the lowest 40 layers of the Overworld, and only in certain areas
This is not a bug, but a false positive in the Anti-Virus system you are using.
Please submit only one bug per report.
Please submit suggestions to the forum as there is no option for feature request currently available.
Please stop commenting "I'm waiting", "reply", "hello", over and over, as these comments do not help the situation and become a nuisance. Your bug report is no more important than anyone else's and continuous comments may have the exact opposite effect of what you want which seems to be an immediate reply. Users, mods, and Mojang have many bug reports to go through, therefore may not reply immediately.
I think Grum is getting tired. Saw a post from one of them that said it's past 1AM over there.
I think what he means is the server says no you can't connect (whitelist, ban, whatever), then refuses all connections from you for a short period of time before resetting and allowing you to attempt again. This prevents from constant reconnect attempts and the server being flooded.
Couple things...
This would be a minor issue as graphic glitches, sound glitches, and such are not high priority. High priority items would be things like MineCraft crash to desktop, freezing on EVERYONE's systems, etc.
Second you probably do not have access to change priority, possibly mods, and definitely Mojang. This is not an completely open JIRA, and currently has a "medium" security set.

Honestly I think this should be left as-is. It brings another level of caution and danger to the game. Yesterday I was exploring in a desert, when my friend popped a block. An entire hillside came down right next to me. Luckily I wasn't directly underneath, but it definitely got my heart beating.
Looks like you are using a texture pack and from the resolution of the textures in your screenshot I would say this client has been patched with HD support. Therefore this is not a base MineCraft issue and you should look for support in the MineCraft Forums on the thread for the texture pack or the HD patcher you used.

One thing I noticed when it happened in the above screen shots I double-right-clicked instead of single. I think there may be a disconnect between the animation and the server sending the client the chest info.
Essentially I double clicked, the chest opened, closed (two animation triggers), then displayed the chest contents (one trigger). At which point the chest was now open when not browsing it, and closed while browsing it.
Update notes for 12w36a only say "seeds" and do not specify a certain type of seeds in the notes. This appears to be intentional.
What you are seeing appears to be a shading effect from the lighting system. If your system's brightness is too high it may appear as white. This appears to be working as designed.
Part of this may be able to be reproduced. I have noticed that if you spawn a villager during the night that they do not make checks to see if it is night time. What you would expect is a villager to be spawned, and within a few ticks it would do something like:
However this can also happen with pre-spawned villagers. Something makes me think when night falls that the AI does not receive the night trigger, or process the code telling them to take shelter, and does not check for night on a regular basis.
Confirmed this. Unknown if constantly reproducible.
Skeleton only seems to be invisible to the person it is attacking, other players around, can see but not hit the skeleton. Display location vs actual location does not seem to match up.
This needs to be confirmed in the base server. (So far no problems for me)
Any non-standard server build needs to be taken up with the appropriate team, not Mojang.

Ok normally I save this for the forums, however you have been attempting to resolve something you honestly thought was a bug and I appreciate the effort.
When animals follow you, they take up a certain amount of space in front of you. When many are together they will push on each other, frequently pushing them too wide. They want to get as close to you as possible.
The way I build my farms resolves this issue. My farms are built in 5x5 (or multiples of, 10x10,20x10 etc.)
I recommend doing it like this.
G=Gate

Sounds like a memory leak. This could happen due to loading worlds and all assets not being unloaded when leaving.
Even with limited block types, there can be memory leaks in other areas. All games suffer from memory leaks, the question is how severe is the leak. Minor leaks can usually be ignored while major leaks need to be fixed as it can become overbearing on the system. That was one of the reasons for pulling back on 1.4.1 and instead releasing 1.4.2.

I have noticed this recently too, and does seem to be a prediction issue as the only way it seems, to get in the first hit, is to strafe. Since the motion of the mob is predicted on the client side, any change in momentum will require an update. More noticeable on remote servers when attempting to attack the mob in a straight forward/back movement. Side-to-side seems to have a higher avoidance rate as the client has not received information that the mob is facing a different direction, or the momentum has changed until the next packet is received.
Agreed however these are two symptoms of the same problem. Once they iron out the recoded lighting, to not have a serious impact on low performance machines, it should fix both symptoms.

Agreed, however if the issue persists, then
MC-27should be repopened and tagged with affects 1.4.2, so the developers can keep a running tally of the issue.I have to say that I'm surprised at Grum's comment. From a marketing standpoint achievements are a big seller. It brings players back to the game to try to get that next achievement, or reset/prestige (by choice) and do it again. Microsoft and the xbox/PC, Sony and the PlayStation, Steam, and more have all learned this. To say a feature included in the game on purpose, isn't that important and you can play without it... is very true, however your customers enjoy seeing "I did something!". When an feature is included in the game, however minuscule, is expected to work properly. People have even been requesting an expansion of the achievement sets.
So I have to agree, fix it or remove it. Otherwise it will continue to reflect badly upon Mojang and their developers as it's highly visible to all who play. I really hope Grum was having a bad day, because I really don't want to see MC go down a path where the majority of players say, "MineCraft is OK, but there's all these bugs they don't care about," instead of "MineCraft is great!"
Excellent, glad to hear from a Mojang employee on this. I might consider doing something similar for personal use.

While I understand your plight, this JIRA does not support modded clients, or texture packs. The next step I would recommend is to seek support from the texture pack creator, or the creator of the HD patch you use as this is not actually the "standard" texture pack that comes with MineCraft.
It sounds like there may be a bug either in the texture pack or the HD support mod. Try it with another texture pack, it may help eliminate the texture pack being the problem. You will also want to make sure the mods and texture packs you use are for the correct version of MineCraft.

With the information you have provided, I suspect MisterSanderson is right, that this is a duplicate of
MC-811and will resolve this as such. If you can provide information to the contrary, please do and we can change the status of the ticket.I was not treating you as a standard user, and as I said I understand your plight. You provided a good bug report and solid information, however that does not change the fact that this is a modded client, and a problem with mods not the base client. Also due to the fact that it is not able to be reproduced in a unmodded client, means there is little to nothing to target as a bugfix.
You did test without Zombe's mod, however the HD texture support is also a mod and not part of the base client. HD textures will not be supported until possibly 1.5.
Your report means a lot to the Moderator team as well Mojang, however once you step outside of the bounds of the base code, we cannot accept a bug report on a modded client as there are many factors that could be affecting your gameplay including the mods. It is impossible to sort out what the mod is having an effect on and what is coming from the base game.
You may be one in eight million, however it's those rare people who help make MineCraft even better.
Please continue to submit useful bug reports, we appreciate the community involvement. However in this case there is nothing we can do, other than to direct you to the support page for the mod.
Does this happen when switching back to the default texture pack?

MC-2497. Please use the search function to see if your bug has already been submitted. Currently over 25% of tickets are being closed as duplicate. The majority of bugs are minor bugs. A major bug would be something like MineCraft crashing on everyone's system on a new release regardless of setup.

Currently over 25% of tickets are being closed as duplicate.Personal Experience: I have experienced what was stated in both tickets on my own personal server. Sometimes items dupe, sometimes they do not. However the source is the same problem, and can be very irritating at times. Since the client timeout doesn't happen quickly, I've gone by 5 min of things braking, not dropping and sometimes after reconnect, items dupe or disappear from inventory. All the work that was done is then gone. Essentially what you are seeing is two symptoms of the same problem.

It almost sounds like you are trying to download the .jar file from the site through a web browser which can be done, but requires more technical expertise.
Try launching the program and allowing it to update or click force update. Further support please refer to the link above.

How was the level created? Is it a random seed by starting a new map in a new local game (or random server map), or is this a customized map?

They do test their releases, put them through pre-releases for public testing, and have opened up this JIRA so the issues can be reported. 8 million people will find the bugs quicker than a handful of developers. They do what they can, but things slip through. A code change in one place can have an unexpected result on something unrelated to the fix.

LOL TS it's far more than two pixels. Closer to 1/8th slab.
Just an FYI, but both spellings are correct according to grammar lookups.
"Ax and axe are different spellings of the same word. Axe is standard in varieties of English from outside the U.S. Axe also appears in American English, but the newer spelling, ax, has gained ground over the last half century and is now more common."
This appears to be an intended result of selecting Fast graphics settings.
Fancy enables higher quality graphic effects, such as transparent leaves, shadows for players/mobs, 3D Rendering dropped for items, volumetric clouds, biome-colored side grass, 2-pass water rendering
Fast disables those effects for better performance.
