Mobs cannot spawn on wooden trapdoors, but can on iron and nether fungus trapdoors
The bug
Hostile mobs can spawn on top half iron, crimson, and warped trapdoors, but not on top half wooden trapdoors.
I have heard that mobs would not be able to spawn on top half trapdoors in the latest snapshots. I tested this in a superflat creative world at night and expected top half iron trapdoors to be spawnproof.
I used the fill command to create an area of top half iron trapdoors and moved away. Hostile mobs started spawning on the platform. I used another fill command to replace the platform with top half oak trapdoors and moved away to despawn the mobs. After moving closer no mobs were spawning on the wooden trapdoor platform.
The expected behaviour would be that mobs are able to spawn on either all types of top half trapdoors or no type of top half trapdoors.
To reproduce
- Create a superflat world with a spawnproof floor (such as glass) on easy difficulty or above.
- Move away from the spawn point and use the fill command to create a platform of top half wooden (oak, spruce, birch, jungle, acacia or dark oak) trapdoors.
- Set the time to night and move at least 24 blocks from the platform.
- No mobs will spawn on the platform.
- Use the fill command again to replace the platform with top half iron, warped or crimson trapdoors.
→
Hostile mobs will be able to spawn on the platform.

Please reopen this bug report as the spawning is still broken since the incorrect 'fixing' of this bug report MC-181233
Hostile mobs no longer spawn on top of top trapdoors. Mobs would always spawn on top before this was broken by mistake. Here you can see them spawning on top of a similar property block, piston heads.
If you have a good and sensible indication or reason that the resolution of MC-181233 was "incorrect", feel free to do so, and include that in your bug report. However, to me it seems very much intentional that mobs no longer spawn on closed trap doors, so I'd expect that bug report to be resolved as either WAI or Invalid (due to being a feature request).

Can confirm. Mobs can spawn on nether fungus (crimson and warped) trapdoors too.
In my opinion, this was fixed the wrong way.
I don't get why mobs should not be able to spawn on them, while placed in the top part of a block, while being closed. The spawning rule has always been that mobs should be able to spawn on top of a block where its top surface extends across the entire top surface of a full cube.
I agree with @SnuRRe.
Should we create a bug report that mobs are spawning on top-slabs?
This bug report was incorrectly 'fixed' it should of fixed the broken wood trapdoors to spawn mobs on top of them like they always use to spawn there. Also new bug report to address this problem.
