Parrot dying while using Riptide enchantment
While using a riptide enchanted trident in the rain, with a parrot perched on your shoulder, the parrot will die shortly after you launch, saying it was slain by the player. I did a little testing and this seems to happen because the parrot dismounts from the player, but starts flying in front of them, causing the player to hit the parrot with the riptide impact. Some possible solutions would be changing parrot AI to stay on the shoulder while holding a trident, giving the parrot temporary invulnerability after dismounting, or making tamed parrots immune to damage from Riptide

Hi [Mojang] Timur Nazarov, whilst testing if MC-248106 was properly fixed, I discovered this problem, so I added this information to MC-248106 and the ticket was reopened by [~moesh]. All of the appropriate details regarding this issue have been provided in a comment by myself on MC-248106 and can be found here. ![]()
Ahhh, I see, thank you for this information. With that being said, would you like me to transfer the details and attachments I provided on MC-248106 to this ticket since the intention is to close the original bug report and since the original problem was fixed? The information I included in a comment on MC-248106 is this same issue, so would I be okay to do this? ![]()
Awesome, thank you too! All the appropriate details regarding this issue have been provided below along with some attachments demonstrating the problem. This ticket relates to MC-248106.
The Bug:
Parrots mounted on players' shoulders can die when using the riptide enchantment.
Steps to Reproduce:
- Summon and tame a parrot.
- Set the weather to "rain" and obtain a trident enchanted with riptide.
/give @s minecraft:trident{Enchantments:[{id:"riptide",lvl:3}]}
- Approach the parrot so that it mounts your shoulder.
- Look downwards and prepare to throw the trident (hold right-click), without actually throwing it.
- Jump and before you start moving downwards, throw the riptide trident.
- Take note as to whether or not parrots mounted on players' shoulders can die when using the riptide enchantment.
Observed Behavior:
Parrots can still sometimes die.
Expected Behavior:
Parrots would not die.

I can confirm this behavior. Whether the parrot will receive damage or not is dependent on the angle you throw the riptide trident at. This ticket may relate to MC-222949.
Hi, um, I don't believe this issue has been fully fixed in 22w06a, as I'm still able to reproduce this under certain circumstances. Whilst a noticeable change has indeed been implemented to avoid parrots from dying when using the riptide enchantment, they still can occasionally be harmed, therefore, I'd like to request for this ticket to be reopened, if that's okay.
Below, I've provided some details on how to go about reproducing this in 22w06a, as well as some attachments demonstrating this.

Can confirm it still kills the parrot if you look almost straight downwards while doing what Avoma stated. This bug should be reopened.
Can confirm in 1.18.2 Pre-release 1.
Cannot select 22w06a, so will leave it as pre-release 2.
