I cannot confirm this issue in the latest version in single player mode.
I have not experienced this
How do you know the babies are doing the killing? Non-hostile mobs don't have the ability to "bash".
Are the drops all near the walls? If so, perhaps overcrowding is forcing some of them into the walls where they suffocate.
I cannot confirm this issue
i tested it on a 1.4.2 Vanilla Server
If it can be confirmed that it was baby animals killing the parents we can revisit this.
