Error: Could not find or load main class net.minecraft.client.main.Main
Played Minecraft 1.9 24 hours ago.
Tried playing Minecraft again today.
Prompted ''Ready to download & play Minecraft 1.9''
When i click on play its starts downloading and then the game output says:
Error: Could not find or load main class net.minecraft.client.main.Main
And when i press play again its boots up Minecraft 1.8.9
When i close the launcher and try again it will do the same thing, first the error then it boots 1.8.9

wrong log, sorry, had to be more clear, 4th tab in the launcher (the one with your username)
Yeah all it's says is:
Error: Could not find or load main class net.minecraft.client.main.Main
Nothing else
I just got the same thing as you "Error: Could not find or load main class net.minecraft.client.main.Main
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM warning: Using incremental CMS is deprecated and will likely be removed in a future release" But I am using Windows 8.1 I tried to do the normal thing of just deleting the full Minecraft folder and reinstalling the game but had nothing. (my game was working perfectly a few hours ago.)
I have the same issue. Played it this morning.
Same issue and Error. Worked about twelve hours ago.
same thing here:
Error: Could not find or load main class net.minecraft.client.main.Main
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM warning: Using incremental CMS is deprecated and will likely be removed in a future release
Game was perfect yesterday.
My Launcher Log is attached and the Game Output is pasted here:
Error: Could not find or load main class net.minecraft.client.main.Main
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM warning: Using incremental CMS is deprecated and will likely be removed in a future release
Also get this one sometimes:

Also having said issue after playing an hour or two ago.
Same issue! Played just last night, now it won't download the new update, instead it defaults me to 1.8.9.

Same issue for me and a couple of friends. It won't run in 1.9, just 1.8.9. and we haven't touched any files, just played the unmodded version.
here too. was playing a few minutes ago. Sound bugged out and started playing continuous static. closed the game to reboot it. same error as above exactly.
I was able to fix this, at least for now, by editing my profile and selecting "Use Version: Snapshot 1.9". For some reason it thinks the most recent version isn't 1.9, acting like it's still in snapshot.
Oh right that is fairly weird Michael least you found away to get around it, hopefully the issue itself manages to get resolved.
For what it's worth everything is back to normal now, no more issues on my end.
Yeah i can just boot up Minecraft 1.9 now without any problems.. so it seems to be resolved!
Yea it seems to be ok for me too I loaded normally
Fixed it by enabling the (advanced) java-settings in Edit Profile.

Thanks guys!
Wghats the fix version?
There is no fix version, it was a small issue and was fixed within 15 minutes
It wasn't an issue inside the game.
