I use Steam to play with controller for the Java Edition. Now, I cant add the new launcher to the Steam library, something about the way this app is installed makes it difficult to add now.

However, this issue is Working as Intended.
You can still add old Launcher to your Steam library, and yes, newer releases will be supported for old Launcher.

You can still use the old launcher, if it will let you regarding
