Edit:
When ever I change profile (e.g. 1.6.1 to Forge) it sets the 'Play' button to 'Play Offline.
I would have to change profile then I would have to re-login to my account.

I have this same issue when I change versions. I have to click 'Log Out' and then log back in for it to work properly.
