We're actually already tracking this issue at MCPE-12575, so I will resolve and link this ticket as a duplicate.
That ticket has already been resolved as working as intended, which means this is not considered a bug and won't be fixed. Please do not leave a comment on the linked ticket.

I would think this is working as intended.
[Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay Wells), but when put the water back it will turn into regular water, i think they should make the colored water can not be taken away.
It's probably a feature to allow the cauldron to be reset to plain water. Let's see what the devs say.
I can not reproduce and I do not understand the procedure you are following here.
[Mojang] MissMarzenia (Aleksandra Zajac), to produce the bug, just take the colored water from cauldron using bucket, and put it back to the cauldron. The water is now non colored.
He is expecting the water to remain dyed if he removes it from a cauldron with a bucket and replaces it again.
My dyed water does not transfer to the bucket at all - colored or not.
Try that on survival mode.
In survival you can empty a cauldron if it's completely full, using an empty bucket, whether coloured or not.
In this case it is WAI.
