Rabbits rarely eat carrot crops
The fix to MCPE-113321 in 1.17.0 is not complete. Rabbits do eat carrots now, but only once in several minutes.
Steps to reproduce
- Make a carrot garden inside a small fenced area.
- Spawn a rabbit.
Expected result
The rabbit eats the carrots reliably and with reasonable regularity, with a short time between raids.
Observed result
The rabbit rarely eats carrots, sometimes only once in 5 minutes as shown in the attached video.
Technical note
Rabbits' raid_garden behavior has a priority of 5. By comparison, look_at_player has a priority of 11. However, they look at the player probably 20x more often than they raid a carrot plant. Likewise, random_stroll has a priority of 6, but they do that much more often than raid_garden.

The fix for this in 1.17.0 is not very good, so I've made a new report at MCPE-131980.
I created a small test world that spawns a single phantom and counts the number of times it attacks you. During a 1-hour test, it attacked 22 times, which averages to about one attack every 3 minutes. Based on the json data in the previous comment that is 12x slower than it should be.
To use Phantom Attack Test.mcworld
, simply stay within the cobbled deepslate box and press the stone button on the impulse command block to reset the test. It will reset the scoreboard, spawn a single phantom, and give the player 4 hours of resistance effect to prevent taking damage and to serve as a timer.
This bug seems like some other bugs we have seen where a behavior does function, but succeeds so rarely that to a casual player it seems not to function at all. Similar bugs include MCPE-59570, MCPE-59043, MCPE-122278 , and MCPE-131980.
Note 12/15/23: test world has been updated in 1.20.60.23
This issue has been reported fixed a few times already (MCPE-113321, MCPE-131980), but it seems that it has never been properly fixed and tested.
Steps to reproduce
- Plant some carrots on farmland and bonemeal them to maturity.
- Spawn a few rabbits.
Expected result
The rabbits would "eat" the carrots, reducing their growth stage.
Observed result
The rabbits ignore the carrots.
As of version 1.19.50, rabbits appear to take no interest in planted carrots anymore at all.
Attached is a rabbit farm which used to work up until the release of 1.19.50, but doesn't work anymore since.
The coordinates for the farm's AFK point are X=23, Y=90, Z=24.
An older version of the same farm can be seen working here:
