This seems to have been fixed for many players in 1.2.9.1, but oddly new set of XBL accounts have been affected with crashing since 1.2.9.1 - please see ticket MCPE-30249 for this new occurrence.

Jonathan Walker, thanks for the update.
Do you remove your Save from the Cloud?
Did anyone do that?
(I haven't done this yet).
I'm afraid then everything is gone.

Does starting the game in airplane mode work? If so, it might be a case of MCPE-30249

This probably is a dublicate of MCPE-30249 but it was said to be resolved in 1.2.10 but it seems not. I am new here so I am not sure if I should've just commented on the old post but it was for 1.2 so probably this is a new issue**
Have you tried a full reinstall of the game?

I reinstalled the game and, just without Xbox Live signed in the games run normal, and with Xbox Live, still crashes...please, fix it
Only trying to help as a suggestion, log in to xbox via the console or the website and see if you need to update info or something there. I'm not sure though.
Same issue. Minecraft PE for iOS updated last night to ver. 1.2.9, as soon as the update was finished, it crashes when it goes to sign into Xbox Live. No error message, just sent back to iOS home screen but the app remains open and will continue the loop if selected. Uninstalling, reinstalling, complete restore of iPad fails to fix the issue.
Hardware: iPad 5th gen.
Update on Android does not have this issue. BUT if I use the XBox ID associated with the iPad, it will crash on other devices.
Windows 10 Minecraft 1.2.9 Crashes when I press "Play" Also.
Edit: Also crashes when I try to access the store through Minecraft. And if I try to play without xbox live, It works fine but of course that fixes nothing.
So one that has 13 votes and 7 following is closed to one that has 2 votes and 2 following? My kids cannot play right now due to this and this feels like it is being thrown on the backburner. Do I need to post all my troubelshooting and everything from the other thread here too?
This bug has been reported to our internal bug tracker for further testing and a fix.
Your comments on the other tickets are appreciated, but if you want to upvote or add any further new information here to help us diagnose the issue, please feel free to do so.
Only happens on one of three xbox live accounts. But that one account crashes xbox one, amazon kindle and windows 10 as soon as it logs in. Xbox says it's syncing just before the crash. If it helps, here's the windows error info, event id 1000:

I have this same issue on Xbox One.
My account works fine.
My son's account, when offline works fine. He can even load a game and start playing. But as soon as we Sign In to the minecraft store page the games crashes to the xbox dashboard.
When starting Minecraft while online the game will get to the profile sync screen then crash to dashboard.
If online and I start the game and choose to switch profiles to his, the game crashes to dashboard.
It may be related - his account is a child account on xbox live while I am an adult account.
The two accounts I am having this problem with are also Child accounts. My Adult account works fine.
Apparently it does not matter on what device you're on: Windows 10, Android, iOS. Tested this on Android Oreo, KitKat, and Windows 10. I whish this gets fixed soon
I was able to get my account to work after much trial and error. (so I'm not sure the exact procedure) some of the steps I did. ... I went into xbox privacy settings and re-saved them. Put device on airplane mode and signed out of xbox and closed it, turned airplane mod off, logged into minecraft and logged into my alternative account that was working. Logged out of that and into the account that usually crashed on connection to xbox. And it worked! and hasn't had a problem since.. A couple friends tried the same thing and going into xbox privacy settings seems to be the key somehow. I didn't really change the settings, just saved them, one person thinks it may be to do with the xbox clubs and allow it. But mine was already that way during the crashes. (other things I tried but it didn't seem to help, resetting xbox, and uninstalling Minecraft) - This was on window10
Chuck Auer yes, i logged in with another Xbox Live account here and this doesn't crashed! I don't know why this happens, with my Xbox Live account: SrAlliphe, i don't know...
Jonathan M yes! My account who is having crashes in my Minecraft its a child account! And the another account here its a adult account! I think that is the problem!
Spike Beer is right, it has something to do with privacy settings. Once I re-saved them, the game stopped crashing. If you have a child account, you won't be able to change privacy settings without a parent(adult account)
THANKS Spike Beer!!!
I have checked your note and it worked (O.O)
I have an adult account. Something was happen with the privacy settings.
I have not changed anything.
FOR ALL PEOPLE: CHECK YOUR PRIVACY SETTINGS AND SAVE IT AGAIN
I did what Spike Beer suggested for my two child accounts. I saved their privacy settings again from within my adult account but did not have any luck.
I’m having the issue on the Xbox One console. I’ve tried adjusting privacy settings and haven’t had any luck either. I’m paying for a realm I can’t even get into and play. Any other suggestions would be most appreciated.
btw, it also affects 1.2.10 beta build 1
I'm not good at English. It is a Realms bug. Villas will disappear if you upload a world where villagers are located in Realms.
TEMP FIX (for those who cannot get the game to work): Turn off wifi/cellular data, then open Minecraft, then sign out, then reconnect to wifi/cellular data and then sign back in and boom you are in.
Same problem with a child account, started crashing after a iOS update.
to fix;
somebody needs to learn about error handling when dealing with external data
I'm experiencing this on my two children's accounts as well.
The sign out sign in workaround does not work for them however.
Anytime their accounts are signed into XBox Live, Minecraft 1.2.9 on iOS crashes near immediately.
I am in the same position as CodeMonkey with my two Child accounts but on Windows 10 and Android. Signing out and signing back in doesn’t work for me. The game still crashes almost instantly.
I've since tried a full reinstall of the game on iOS and that also does not solve the crashing upon log into XBox live with a child account.
Child account. The workaround of turning off wifi, logging out, wifi back on and log in works. But it's only temporary, you have to do it every single time you open the app.
This kept happening to me so i deleted the game not know that it will delete my worlds! Im done with this game! Over 300 hrs wastes 😡
It's on Xbox side, not on minecraft side. My Xbox app used to crash too, but then after I updated my privacy settings the game and the Xbox app have stopped crashing
I am having this issue as well. Using xboxlive account my daughter cannot log into any device, andriod, or xbox one. I can log in with my account and can play for awhile but it crashes if I try to go to the settings while playing.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the games. I have edited xboxlive privacy settings nothing seems to help. The only way she can play right now is in airplane mode on her phone or if I put the xboxoone in offline mode. as soon as I put it online she crashes.
Mojang told me to go to Microsoft and Microsoft tells me to go to Mojang.
Even though it's not listed in the changelog, the update 1.2.10 update on iOS appears to have resolved the issue of the game crashing immediately upon log in with a child account.
The 1.2.10 update appears to have resolved the issue of the game crashing immediately upon log in with a child account on Windows 10 as well.
Based on your comments I'm closing this as fixed in 1.2.10.2.
Can confirm, this is resolved for xbox one. Child account is now able to play again! Thanks.
Oh yeah! Thanks for fix this bug in 1.2.10.2! I can play normaly again with my child account as i ever used to play Minecraft! Thank you!
This issue is not resolved for me.
Windows 10 Edition
Build: 662590
Protocol Version:201
Build Date:2018-2-01
When I start the app everything is fine. The main menu loads fine.
When I try to open up the store, the game will crash within 2-5 seconds.
When I click the play button, it loads up the world screen for about 5-8 seconds and crashes.
Now, when I log out of Xbox Live account the game works fine. I can create, and play on created world.
I have updated my privacy setting, I have signed into other Xbox live accounts and the same issue occurs.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app several times.
Deleted any texture packs and worlds I had previously.
I play on Windows 10 version.
Not Xbox or IOS or Android.
Any help would be appreciated.
having issue on ipad 4 apps crashing then try to loggin to xbox live. version : 1.2.1 only way around is to turn off wifi.
Wonder if this is the same issue. We have a Huawei tablet. In Minecraft, When I click login (down-left corner) it quickly shows a Microsoft account window with text connecting ... and suddenly that window and Minecraft disappear.
