In-game menus cannot be opened after first attempt (VR)
When using Minecraft with VR (using a Samsung Odyssey Windows Mixed Reality headset specifically, no other devices confirmed beyond WMR), the menu items can only be activated once before the interaction stops completely.
To duplicate this, load up Minecraft and get into the VR living room. From here, if you were to toggle the perspective, you can shift to and from the VR room to the game just fine. But if you are in the game (not on the couch) try to open one of the menu screens (game menu, inventory, chests, etc.), the first attempt will open but additional attempts will not display. I haven't seen any warnings or errors. I haven't been able to get the menu's to display until force quitting the exe and booting the game fresh. If there are any logs that would be helpful, I would be happy to attach them.
The VR controllers are responding and working as expected beyond opening these types of screens. (Breaking blocks, placing blocks, movement, and interacting with the HUD on the left hand)
A few people have run into this issue as well, the only mention I have found is on this forum. I don't know if it is specific to this release or specific to the WMR headsets.
Update 1: Thanks to @Chrisstovla, it has been determined (and I was able to confirm as well) that turning off "screen animations" in the video settings will allow the menus to open and close as expected. Hopefully, this additional information will help resolve the issue!

when playing the game and loading it last night I had multiple bugs. 2 show stopper. one has been reported one I dont think has. im just going to go over my list as best as I can describe.
bug 1. when I enter the game and click to go in vr mode after a few min of clicking the left stick it no longer goes back to non vr mode where you are in the minecraft room looking at the screen. you then are stuck in vr.
bug 2. after a while I can no longer use my d pad to switch b.w inventory items it works for about 15 min and then stops working. this along with I cant open chests and see internals around this point and I cant view my larger inventory. I was able to one time open it but it wouldn't open again. I think this is part of another bug previously reported here..
bug 3. I was not able to leave the game. there was no way to quit the game nothing would come up at all in game to leave. I ended up doing a task manager kill to kill it. this was a show stopper bug for me.
bug 4. / bug 5. but we played more. after opening we went in a realm. I died in the realm I could not click to live again I just saw there in vr with my cursor was not moving staring at one block. I was able to almost break the block while in this ghost mode. and another player on the realm was able to see me breaking or trying to break the block but it wouldn't end up breaking. she broke it and put it back but I could still try to break it and get the visuals ..
again no option to respawn I force closed again
bug 6. this time I tried to set it up to use my xbox one controller in the beginning screen I clicked a on my controller and nothing would happen. I also tried to click a on the keybord nothing would happen. I was then stuck to the controllers from Samsung as I thought maybe my controllers are not working correctly.
I had tweeted mat gartzky about this he said to post here. I would love to know if they plan to fix this version as this is why I purchased windows mixed reality glasses. I know there is a warning in the beginning. as for that please let me know. as I have less then 30 days to return them as 90% of why I purchased them was to play this game in vr.
thankyou michael aka. swizzlerz
I also repro this with the Lenovo Explorer with a Surface Book 2. This bug is game breaking.
I'm having this issue with the Lenovo Explorer on a custom-built computer. Windows 10 1709 Build 16299.371. This bug is game breaking.
Acer WMR here, same problem
hp WMR checking in, same bug to report.
Exact same bug with a fresh copy of minecraft. Acer WMR. Please advise!
I noticed, that (as a work around) if u switch to "living-room"-mode i can craft and use chests and stuff like that.
So if i want to do something i press the left stick, craft my stuff and press it again.
I have the same problem here when will it worked?
Acer WMR same problem, my very excited 8 year old is now a very upset 8 year old
Odd that such a game-breaking bug sneaked its way into an official release. Hope this gets patched soon!
Can confirm this bug occurs when I play on my HP headset.
Hopefully we can get more people to notice this issue, and bring it to Mojang's attention.
Hi all,
just wanted to let everyone know that I fixed the problem by turning off "screen animations" in the video settings.
Works perfectly for me now. Hope it works for you too.
Chris.
Awesome!
Thanks for the find, Chris! I just confirmed that this allows the menus to function as expected on my system as well and updated the description so it doesn't get lost in the comment feed.
David
