"Buy a realm" popup shows up when trying to join a realm
1. Click on the realm
2. Click anywhere outside of the "Buy a Realm" box
3. Go to fullscreen if you're playing in windows mode, or vice versa (F11). This will make the options split again.
4. Click on the realm again
5. Click on the "buy a realm" again
6. The play button should be click-able now

I tried earlier to leave a dead realm (for more than a year) that I had in my list. Though it failed at leaving it, it didn’t fail a leaving a realm, as is, my active other one…
As I had only two realms in my list, I can’t say if it is random or what, though it could possibly be linked to REALMS-1692, as iirc there were no create your realm button at this time (and I tried to remove the last realm in my list, which was occupying the first —in the list— realm placeholder, so to speak).

The Buy a Realm tab will not close. There is no [x] button for me to press in order to close it. This is the same glitch as REALMS-1692 but the resolution/workaround for that bug does not work for me. I keep having the same problem even when I log in on a different computer (with the same account).
REALMS-1692 functionally identical to this problem, only difference is that the workaround no longer works 100% of the time

Hmm, odd. Can you try closing the game (including the launcher), then reopen it and try again? Does it work then?
ok, I am able to join the realm by spam clicking escape and right-click, but the main problem that it shouldn't open that menu when i click on the realm is still there

I had a problem too. I fixed it by leaving my friend's realms and rejoining it again by telling him to invite me
i also tryed leaving the realm and being reinvited but it still happens
One of the players on my realm is having the exact same problem. She has tried reloading Minecraft, reloading the launcher, logging out of the launcher and logging back in, rejoining the realm and even completely reinstalling Minecraft. Still, every time she clicks the realm, she gets the prompt asking her to buy one.
Moved ticket to the Minecraft Realms (REALMS) project.
If I spam click right and left then I can click "Play", but still the "Buy Realm" should not come there!
I'm still having this issue. Confirmed I have updated, and that the realm has been updated. Have also tried leaving and getting reinvited to no avail.

i think the realms button merged together with the "Want to buy your own realm?" button since its on the exact same location of it
This probably happens because of the new accessibility features (like being able to press Tab to navigate around menus). In fact, can someone who is affected by this try to select the realm they want to play on using Tab and the arrow keys, and then select Play using Tab and Enter? Maybe that works as a workaround.
When I tried this the play button remained greyed out
I tried that and even pressing enter, i couldn't join. The play button also remained grey.

Having the same problem, the "want to get a realm" message did show after a while, so the popup doesn't show with me anymore but the "play" button is still greyed out
I found a workaround for the time being. If you select the realm, then close the "buy a realm" dialogue you can then resize your window to make it really small. Eventually you'll see the play button appear. At least I did... And I was then able to login.
I also have the same grey play button issue. On a mac, it seems like windows users are able to join fine.
TAB is able to navigate around, though skips the play button due to it being greyed out.
I'm on a mac as well, i've been able to force the play button to be enabled by just clicking around and stuff but i haven't been able to trigger it on purpose.
EDIT: I have found a workaround by waiting for the green message to appear (it can take quite a while) then clicking on the message and then closing the popup. Then my play button is enabled.
thank you Stig, that works for me. One side note is you have to click the [x] in order for the play button to work. Clicking off the message makes it still greyed out.

EDIT: I also still can't click play, even when the green message comes up.
Realms page UI isn't aligned properly

try to click somewhere else and also use window not max, then possible to play
i marked the realm in small window , then i max sized window , then click "play" instead of "leave" , i think i did like that to start play
I also have the same issue. The workaround in the description didn't work, and was a little unclear.
We logged in by trying to follow the various comments. After mashing left and right click on the realm and outside it, the window popped up, then clicking outside the window, the play button became clickable. This is after trying seemingly the same thing over and over.
It seems that following the comments should eventually create a workaround.
i start minecraft in windowed
click button minecraft realms
click the server you going to play on
click in empty space
click max window
now you have 3 active buttons visible
click play
le to finally get in by minimizing and maximizing window a few times to get the third button
All my friends did what Tony Von Reis did and it helped us to get them Logged in, they did this:
i marked the realm in small window , then i max sized window , then click "play" instead of "leave" , i think i did like that to start play

I came here looking to see if anyone else was having this issue. I am the host of the realms and my friends are having the same issue as stated above. Except, they can't click on either of the two realms I purchased, not just the first Realm on their list. My version is Java for Windows. Theirs is Java for Mac.
I told them about the work around but it only worked for one of them and ended up loading a different world from the one I had selected as the host. The weird part was I was already in the Realm in the world I had selected. It was on my friends Mac. So I don't have anything to show so I hope my description was efficient enough.
For the fix to take effect, you will need to restart the game, and maybe the launcher as well. Once the game starts again, it should download a new version of Minecraft Realms which no longer has this issue.
I play on a Mac (10.14.3) and the issue is NOT resolved (April 25 7:40 EDT). When I select REALMS a large box obscures the game selection. I CANNOT get it to "click outside the box" . The obscuring window will not go away. Even when I use tab to move between selections, I cannot get the ongoing game to get selected, so PLAY never becomes active.
I'm sorry to hear that Ronald. Can you please verify that you are using realms 1.14.13 by looking in the log?
If this is the case, this popup depends a lot on your account status. Things like if you have purchased realms, a realms trial or neither, if you have your own realms created or they are yet to be created, if you are invited to other realms and so forth.
