Launcher won't work - Microsoft Backend Servers Switched To Using TLS 1.3 Rather Than TLS 1.2. Not Supported on Windows 7/8
Title says it all.
This is a new bug, last few days, caused simply by Microsoft switching the version of TLS used for their authentication servers to TLS 1.3 rather than TLS 1.2
The launcher (any, the older one or the newest) says at the bottom "Oh noes! Something went wrong and we couldn't connect to the Minecraft services".
I can now only play the game offline.
Do NOT mark this is a duplicate. This is a new issue, from the last few days.
As an aside, I also answer Mojang support queries through a third party company subcontracted to do so. I'm seeing hundreds upon hundreds of people affected by this the last few days. Infuriating just as much for me as them.
I know what the fix is - there is only one fix. Microsoft need to reenable TLS 1.2 on their servers. It's that simple.
Eagerly awaiting some response on this...

Starting yesterday I am receiving an error when opening the Launcher:
Oh no! Something went wrong, and we couldn't connect to the Minecraft services. Try again
It was working fine previously.
Checking the logs (launcher_log.txt) seems to be an SSL error.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Launcher. Now I am getting an error when trying to start it:
Couldn't load launcher core from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Minecraft Launcher\game\launcher.dll": LoadErrrorNotPresent.
If this is your first time running Minecraft, Please ensure you are connected to the internet so we can download updates.
Logs (launcher_log_reinstall.txt) still show an SSL error.
Edit: yesterday looking for known issues found this which is marked as resolved: MCL-21123 duplicate of WEB-5634
MCL-11510 is marked as Resolved but currently I am not able to install the launcher (I assume because of the SSL error). WEB-5634 has this comment:
TLSv1.2 was accidentally enabled on a certain endpoint. The change is rolledback now.
I assume that is a typo and it is meant to be TLSv1.3 which is not supported by Win7 which I am using.
Please use the MCL project to report bugs with the launcher: https://bugs.mojang.com-/browse/MCLOn second thought, maybe this should go in the Mojang Web Services project: https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/WEB
The bug isn't actually with the launcher though, it's with Microsoft's authentication servers.
Yup, which means that WEB is the way to go
Chances are that a moderator will move this ticket to the correct project soon.
Hopefully so. Couldn't see the doohickey to move it.
Hi, TLSv1.2 was accidentally enabled on a certain endpoint. The change is rolledback now.
Confirmed fixed, thanks so much!
edit: You mean TLS 1.3 rather than 1.2?
Either way, well done on a speedy resolution, very much appreciated.
From my PC it appears to have righted itself just in the last 5 minutes
