This bug has been made worse in 1.20 pre-2 with the fix to
MC-124327.
Now when you rename an item to " " it reverts back to the original item name without italics but doesn't stack with items of the same name. So you have a situation where what looks like the same item to the player, won't stack with other similar items that have been through an anvil. Only if you have advanced tooltips enabled to show the NBT tag added by the anvil does the reason become apparent.
The Bug:
Firework explosions do not render beyond 64 blocks on multiplayer servers. Given that they do render up to the player's render distance in single player, I believe this to be a bug. This bug also sometimes prevents Flight Duration 3 explosive fireworks from rendering for the player who shot the firework via crossbow.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Log onto any multiplayer server
2. Fill a dispenser with exploding fireworks and create a redstone line that will activate it more than 64 blocks long3. Observe when dispenser is activated and the player is within 64 blocks of the dispenser, dispenser shoots the firework and you can see the firework explode
4. Observe when you're beyond 64 blocks the dispenser will still shoot the firework BUT you can't see the firework explode

This is definitely an intended feature.
This may or may not be an intended feature. Mojang has not yet stated publicly if this is intended or not.
This is still an issue in 1.7.9 and launcher version 1.3.11.
I doubt this is intended. The player still jumps the same height as when a slimeblock normally launches that player. This bug applies to virtually all trampoline type designs. I see no reason why this behavior would be intended.
You can fall on slimeblocks from any height and not take damage so fall damage is not expected to occur. That's what this bug is about.
I did some research into what could be causing this and think I found my answer. When you land, you're not landing on a slime block. When the piston is in the process of extending or retracting, what appears to be a slime block is actually Block 36, which doesn't have a collision box. So you fall right through it and land on the piston head. Then the slime block reappears (with you now inside it) and having just been extended, launches the player skyward.
Basically this amounts to an unfixable bug without reworking how pistons extend and retract.
This is a seriously bad bug. I am surprised to see it still in the game after all this time.
Edit: You may also want to add that this affects Windows users as well, not just Linux.
Fixed in 23w35a
I can confirm that this is the case. To reproduce 1. Get a mace with Level 3 Wind Burst enchantment 2. Hit a mob with the mace knocking yourself over 4 blocks upwards. 3. Observe that the player takes fall damage.
I think this is a bug as mace hitting any mob is supposed to negate all fall damage, this bug prevents that.
This could be working as intended.
This has practical survival applications like parkour courses where you intentionally hit armor stands/minecarts to boost yourself to a higher platform. To allow players practice this in creative mode would mean that this behavior should stay.
Confirmed for 1.20.4
Upon testing further it also does affect single player. Updated the bug report to reflect that.
I was able to reproduce in single player both with crossbow and dispenser in 24w18a in a fresh world (default simulation distance 12 chunks). I tried turning simulation distance down to the lowest setting (5 chunks) and it had no noticeable effect. Maybe there is something specific that triggers the bug for some in single player but not others.
Not fixed as of 1.21 Release.
Yeah this and the knockback from wind charges should both be changed. Blast Protection is supposed to protect against damage not negate any knockback taken. This is a huge oversight if unchanged.
This behavior still occurs in vanilla 1.21.1 when the AI is deactivated. This bug should be reopened.
