Some things you could try to troubleshoot if your servers aren't loading or if you get a "Internal Exception: java.net.SocketException: Connection Reset" Error since 1.17:
- Make sure the new OpenJDK16 is allowed through the Windows Firewall.
- Press the Windows Key and type "firewall."
- Click on "Allow an app through Windows Firewall."
- In the new window, press "O" on your keyboard and look for "OpenJDK Platform Binary."
- If you find it, make sure both the checkbox on the left, as well as both checkboxes on the right, are checked. Then click OK and try Minecraft again.
- If you do not find that entry, click Change Settings, then click Allow another app...
- If you're using the legacy launcher, click Browse, then navigate to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minecraft Launcher\runtime\java-runtime-delta\windows-x64\java-runtime-delta\bin\
and select 'javaw.exe', click Open, then Add.
- If you're using the Microsoft Store launcher, click Browse, then navigate to:
C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.4297127D64EC6_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Local\runtime\java-runtime-delta\windows-x64\java-runtime-gamma\bin\
and select 'javaw.exe', click Open, then Add. (Note: Your Microsoft. folder may differ from the path here. If so, navigate through each Microsoft. folder in the directory until you find the right one)
- Click OK and try Minecraft again.
- Try disabling all VPNs, Hamachi, Antiviruses, and firewalls (especially third-party firewalls)
- Try on another connection, such as mobile data via wireless hotspot or USB tethering.
- Try creating a new profile in the launcher (Installations -> New), setting it to 1.18.2 (not latest release), and trying that new profile.
- Try the following on Windows:
- Press the Windows Key, then type cmd.
- Under 'Command Prompt,' click Run as administrator
- Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
- Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.
- Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
- Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
- Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
- Please try the steps in this comment by David Wang

FIXED THE ISSUE.
Firewall was blocking online access for 1.17 and I told it to stop.
I usually play on 1.8 or 1.16 and they work fine, but in 1.17 I'm unable to join any servers. I'm a member on an SMP server which just updated to 1.17, but I'm unable to join, which sucks.
All the servers on the list are Pinging, and trying to load realms gives me this error message:
An error occurred (500):
Could not connect to Realms: Connect timed out
TL;DR
every other version:
full list of working servers (joinable and all)
1.17:
full list of "Pinging..." servers (not so joinable - they just keep loading)
Worth mentioning that this was also happening with the pre-releases.
Some have told me that they needed to remove the Mojang account and log in again every time they start the launcher.
I've found that renaming the .minecraft folder to .minecraft_backup resolves the issue.
Also logging in to the same account on another computer (in launcher) will also solve the issue.
I also suspect it could be the 'username' field in launcher_accounts.json in .minecraft that is causing this behavior. Possibly deleting this file would resolve this issue.
Also one thing to note:
Minecraft does not play well with VPNs, so make sure all VPNs are disabled (preferably uninstalled). I just had one user who got this error when trying to open worlds or enter servers with a VPN on.
Potential workaround:
"So a friend figured out a workaround for getting onto servers on Switch. You need to get the ping number to load an actual number not just a loading bar. To do this, play on a creative world for a couple of minutes then it works. No idea why."
The server side has been a common issue affecting only 1.17. No definite fix/workaround yet, but some things to try:
and click Open, then Add.
This might not strictly be a technical support issue. We've seen many cases in MCCS where it only affects 1.17, happens across most/all servers, and standard troubleshooting often does not resolve/pinpoint the issue. This also often affects connecting to servers like Hypixel as well.
If you try the 5 items in the Mod Note and it still does not resolve the issue, then please go to Community Support for further help. There isn't a definitely known solution yet, and this error seems to be a catch-all error that encompasses many different causes and connection-related problems, but sometimes certain workarounds will work, which Community Support can help with.
Please pay attention to the text in the yellow box, and not the text of the original issue. The links in the original issue description are wrong and are not the solution to the issue anyways.
Confirm that toggling between fullscreen and windowed causes the invite and news button to appear.
Another thing that worked for me was to go into the configuration page for an existing realm and go back out to the realm page.
Launcher log from a Win 7/8 launcher linked below (someone else). Verified that account is ok at mc.net/profile. Didn't work with hotspot. Had F-secure installed, which was completely disabled. Tried Adwcleaner.

My own launcher log from a Win 10/11 launcher. Was working a few weeks ago. Did not try any troubleshooting steps.

If I remove the saved Microsoft account from the list, and log in again, it worked, at least the one time I tested it.
On my other computer, I have the Win 7/8 launcher. After that issue popped up, I clicked on Microsoft login, logged in, and was able to launch the game, but it threw an error connecting to API. Game output log:

Ticket requested by Ined in order to attach instructions in a mod note.
Correction: Donuts, not Ined. Sorry
@Barnos Yea that's one of the ways. Donuts will write something and turn it into a mod note. I created this so that they could do that and this would turn into a reference point for generating and submitting such logs for any issue in the future.
It seems this issue only happens on Windows, and mostly happens when the computer has ever had Hamachi installed on it at some point, even if it was removed later on.
Please try the following and let me know if it works:
You are welcome. I did not find the fix, but just passing it on. Glad it worked for you.

In summary, with Marchelino84, in addition to their earlier comments, they have also tried scanning with Avast and trying to update audio and video drivers. They have tried resetting their .minecraft data folder. We have also scanned with adwcleaner and run dism, sfc, and chkdsk scans. I've also asked them to generate a dxdiag report which they have also attached.
