Teleporting a mob while it is pathfinding will make it navigate back to where it was originally going
The bug
Teleporting a mob while it is trying to pathfind to a position will make it try to go in a straight line directly pack to where it was going to, and then continue on as normal if it reaches that spot. If the spot they are pathfinding to is above them they will just jump and spin when they get to the X/Z coordinates. (Image 4)

If a naturally spawned mob is teleported away it will try to make its way back to where it was
I have a system set up in a building that teleports away any mobs that spawn inside it as I dont want weird lighting systems in it but the naturally spawned mobs will walk back over to the building for some reason. If you block their path they will just stay there.

May be related to MC-150839.
Although the earliest version in the affected versions list is a 1.14 snapshot I saw this 2 days ago in 1.12.2. It didn't occur to me at the time that it was worthy of reporting, but glad to see it fixed in modern versions.
