I placed decorated pot and took iron block in hand, in singleplayer flat world. Then just clicked on it. One block placed and second put in pot. Works in survival too, just requires 2 items in hand. Same with others blocks. Can see bug even in newly created world

Sneaking does that, it prevents aimed-at-block interaction allowing you to place next to containers.
Don't sneak and you'll (try to) put the block in the pot instead. I cannot reproduce both actions taking place at once (in 1.20.4).

Can confirm. For whatever reason, placing blocks is not disabled when interacting with decorated pots.

Can also confirm. @Dhranios, this is occurring in 1.20.5 snapshots, not 1.20.4. This is likely due to some of the changes surrounding interactions in that snapshot (see
MC-267456)I saw the affected versions, hence why my comment explicitly states the version number.
