Cactus item drops will get "deleted" from other cactuses
I don't really think that this is a bug, but its a huge annoyance(for me, I don't know for others)
When making a traditional cactus farm* sometimes the cactus item drop can fly into the bottom cactus block and it will get deleted. Not always happening, but it needs more space between farm rows and also having complex systems with redstone so it could work 100% catch chance.
*What I expected to happen was...:
The cactus item drop to get pushed of the cactus block at one random side.
*What actually happened was...:
The cactus item drop got "deleted" by the bottom stem.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Make a traditional cactus farm*
2. Wait for the cactus to grow
3. Start facedesking of agony.
NOTE TO THE CACTUS FARM: It doesn't only restricted to happen in the Flatlands, and it may be built in other ways. The block above can be any block(even transperant)

The wiki is referring to the falling block entity and what happens when you use /summon with one for a cactus (e.g. /summon minecraft:falling_block ~ ~40 ~ {BlockState:{Name:"minecraft:cactus"},Time:1}), not a dropped item. That said, the information on the wiki was wrong; sand and gravel convert to items (which are then often destroyed) which is the same as a summoned falling cactus. I've edited it to make it clearer.
The behavior with items (which is what you'd get with the setup in the screenshot) being destroyed by cactus is different, and is covered by MC-3532.
This behavior is not unintended. See MC-3532.

Cactus have always destroyed items that hit them, this is an intended feature.
As above, cactus destroy items that hit them. Working as intended.
I think what the reporter is saying is that the item created by breaking the cactus block doesn't always clear the base of the cactus, thus being destroyed with no chance of being picked up. They're saying that the item should fly further, or at a different angle, or just reliably not fly directly at the base of cactus.
They're not saying that cactus blocks destroying items is a bug.
EDIT: egads my old comments...
I think the point is that cactus blocks destroy cactus items. It certainly makes sense the cactuses destroy items, and certainly makes sense that the dropped item can land on the below block, but a cactus item specifically shouldn't be deleted by a cactus block.
For this reason I'd like to request that this be reopened for developer opinion on whether or not it's intended. Unless of course I'm misunderstanding as well
Imho this would not be a bug, but rather a feature request. Even if it's annoying that cacti destroy cacti, it's clearly not a bug as cacti destroy all items.
So... lava should destroy lava?
Arrows should break arrows?
