While riding in a vehicle, the suffocation rate is doubled, possibly tripled. This happens on boats and minecarts. I have not tested horses nor pigs. Also, suffocation rate-increasing happens with any block that is dropped onto you.

I can confirm it happens with horses as well.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 14w10c / Launcher version 1.3.10 or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
Abnormal suffocation rates is no longer an issue. Thank you for your time.
Bug is back in latest snapshot.
Confirmed. While sitting in a minecart, suffocation damage happens so quickly that I can barely break the block of dirt suffocating me with my fists before dying. While not riding a vehicle, I can break the block before taking a whole heart of damage.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 14w32d (upcoming 1.8 pre-release) / Launcher version 1.5.2 or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
Confirmed for 1.8 release, will code dig later for the cause.
