The bug
In previous versions, items thrown into lava would bounce out while getting caught on fire. This was intended (MC-54861) (and I liked it personally 
). In 19w07a, this behavior stopped working. It worked in 19w06a and below. No changes regarding this were mentioned.
How to reproduce
1. Throw some items into lava
→ 
They fall right in like it's water instead of bouncing

This has been in many previous versions (1.2.5, etc.).
Well in this snapshot, the dropped item(s) bounced on flat lava like I was skipping stones for 2-3 times on occasion. I tried it in other versions and it burned up instantly.

It instantly starts burning and bouncing but doesn't gets destroyed instantly just after some seconds
I'm still bouncing items off lava in 14w21b... They sometimes bounce 4 times...
If this is happening on a server , then it's latency. I checked in single player and could not actually reproduce it.
I am in Creative Single Player. I don't normally throw items into lava on servers (or survival).
This is kinda normal... the item is knocked back from the 'damage' and it's been happening since alpha/beta MC, so...
Confirmed for 15w43c & 1.8.8.
