Cannot place corner vines
The bug
You cannot place vines to cover multiple blocks in a corner, instead you can always only place it on one side removing the existing vines on the other side(s).
Expected would be that clicking with vines on the other side changes the existing vines to cover this corner as well (this might however be not possible with 3 or 4 enclosing sides.
How to reproduce
- Place two solid blocks diagonally to each other creating a corner
- Place vines on one side of the corner
- Try to place vines on the other side of the corner
→ The vines on the other side are removed
Workaround
Either wait for the vines to spread to the other side(s) or place vines above / below and wait for them to grow there.

Vines Double Corner Placement Removal Bug
I understand that Vines are "Blocks" that can be overridden by other blocks.
If you have a roofed corner (3 blocks outside) with Vines you place one vine the block side where you placed it and the "roof block" gets populated. The side next to it does not.If you want to place a vine there you simply cannot without coming into the bug, where it will replace the current vine and place a new one.
From a user's view he "looses" an item as the existing vine gets destroyed.Or you will have to use a trick where you place the vines on two different heights and place the top block afterwards to circumvent this bug.
I think this should be "fixed" so vines can be either placed over corners or the user cannot place a vine there.

Confirmed for 1.12.1.
Can no longer reproduce in 17w50a. Apparently this got fixed in some 1.13 snapshot.
More accurately, this got fixed in 17w47a (flattening).
