(PS4) Pressing L3 does not allow another player to join in Local Coop
To fix the issue, you need to sign in with a Microsoft account. You can do so by going into Settings > Game and selecting the Cross-Platform Play.
I started a coop game on my son's account and it worked fine for a few hours. When we have gone back into start the game again, it recognises the second controller but pressing L3 does nothing so you cannot add a second player. I have tried pressing L3 on the title screen and in-game, used multiple controllers and tried using different profiles and in conclusion, the problem must be with the game.

NoteFor the time being, the current solution is to create a separate PlayStation Network account for each individual player.

Multiple people are currently reporting issues with the L3 button being unresponsive. Does
MCD-4750describe your issue? No. My issue is specifically about not being able to press L3 and add another player for local multiplayer. It's really annoying me now, such a stupid bug.
I have the same issue. Start up the game on my PS4 with the latest patches, my son picks a character, and then I try to press L3 to join and nothing happens. Please fix! By the way, my son does not have a PSN account, only I do. My son starts the game under his user on the console and then I join him.
I had similar issues before the ^magical ^ 1.6 patch. MCD (only on PS4 vs PC with the same DS4 controllers) regularly refused to recognize any controller other than P1, for me.
1. Try holding the PS button on P1-> Sound/Devices -> Turn Off Device -> Turn off P1 controller.
2. See if P2 L3, etc, controls now work.
3. If not, rejoin P1 controller by pressing PS button and selecting P1 player.
4. If #2 didn't work, see if it does now.
It seems as though I can start the game with a user that has a PSN account, then sign in on controller 2 as a user without a PSN account and they can join with L3. But, the other way around does not work. If I start the game as a non-PSN user, then my PSN user cannot press L3 to join.
What is the estimated time for taking care of this issue?
Is there any update for this issue. Like many others who have reported the issue, this was bought for my kids to play together and they are unable to do so. I note that it has been 10 days since the last comment asking for an estimation of time to fix, with no reply.
Creating a PlayStation network account for each player is not a fix! We shouldn’t have to pay for multiple network subscriptions to be able to have a fully functioning game. All I want is for my kids to all be able to play at the same time locally, so multiple network accounts doesn’t make a whole lot of sense and it’s not cheap.
Same issue, L3 does not allow additional players to join . Our family game is no longer a family game until this is fixed .
That's another 11 days without any comment from Mojang or Microsoft. What does it take to get a reply or any update on when you plan to fix this>
@Mojang - Still have to delete and recreate my kids save games so they can play. What's your policy for a refund since this game crippling bug is getting no attention? Or should we all just keep creating duplicates so you actually reply?
Another 14 days without an update or comment from Mojang or Microsoft?
And still have same issue! This is completely insane. Fix your crap ASAP please.
Still having this issue. Game has become a paperweight since the only reason I bought this game was for my son's birthday, so we would have a game we could play together.
We have also been having this problem for months. We've been waiting for an update to fix it. We put lots of time into our characters. None of us want to start over, so we just don't play together anymore.
I don't understand why they keep marking this as "Resolved". Why can't they just have it so people can keep playing their characters on the same account like in the beginning? This is the whole reason why we bought it!
As far as I know this is the only console that's having this issue and it's only been since the most recent update. Very upset with the Mojang rep that told me to basically "deal with it" as well. Goes by the name DoomSquiggle. Absolutely not helpful and hasn't responded to my last email after sending 3 messages back and forth. This is absurd.
Has there been any progress with this issue yet? Purchased this game a few days ago, worked okay for the first couple of days and now we have the same problem. Paid good money for this game and an issue like this should not remain unfixed for so long.
@Elliot Davis no there hasn't been any progress. I've contacted multiple people at Mojang and everyone said it was being worked on, but nobody could tell me if there was actually someone working on that specific bug, or if it's just something they're aware of and might eventually fix. They refuse to issue a refund or exchange for a different platform (I specifically asked if I could send them my physical copy on ps4 for a Nintendo Switch version, since Switch doesn't have this bug and was refused and told to buy it myself if I wanted to play it on Switch, which I would have obviously done if I'd known the ps4 version doesn't work as advertised.)
My kids love Minecraft and bought this game with their money so they could play together. The PS5 is the only platform having this issue and it’s still unresolved? This bug makes the game unplayable for them. When will it be fixed?
Hi; I created another ticket and we have exactly the same issue. My kids doesn’t have an online account. Also I believe it should be an easy bug to fix. It worked twice when I deleted and reinstalled the app. My 2 kids are really frustrated with the game as well. I am considering to return in the next few days if we don’t have a solution. We bought it for both kids play together.
Question for those who suffer from this issue: when first starting the game, did you skip the process of linking your Microsoft account to the PlayStation 4? If yes, can you resolve the issue by going into Settings > Game > Cross-Platform Play?
We've been linked since buying the PS4, but double checked and tried the Microsoft linking solution just now and it still won't let us back into the game as multiplayer. Been playing this as multiplayer for over a year. First it started deleting characters, then it stopped letting us log in as our multiple characters 2 months ago, but we worked around that as guests. Now it doesn't recognize the 2nd and 3rd controllers. It just started that this week. Worked fine last week. We will appreciate a fix or workaround please. Preferably without starting over our level 300 characters.
Thank you!
We need this bug to be fixed. My kids are really upset with the game and the lack of attention. It’s not possible morango can’t fix this bug. Always coming with solutions that are not pratical or make any senses. They should escalate that to get solved. I will return this game anyway. And will avoid mojang games for now on. Very bad support. If the game doesn’t work properly or they fix it or they refund the buyers
unnaceptable
This issue should be fixed as of version 1.9.1.0. Please let us know if this is indeed the case.
