New game icon not working under Linux
With 1.6.1, I noticed on my roommate's Windows PC that the launcher icon has taken the original grass block icon, and the game window now uses a crafting bench icon. With Linux, this has not been reflected.
The normal workaround is to use a .desktop file and set an icon to a process using its WM_CLASS variable, which is what I've done until the 1.6.1 launcher, but the game window that is created with the new launcher does not seem to have such a property, so it seems to be stuck with the ugly, default "?" icon in my environment.
The new crafting bench is available in the .minecraft/assets/icons directory as intended, though I don't know of a way to actually bind it to the process.
The icon for the launcher itself is fine, just not the game.

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 1.7.2 / Launcher version 1.3.1 ? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
relates to
Please not that: This bug report is not about the launcher (that one is MCL-737), but about the game version that is started by the launcher.
Instead of the game icon (which currently is a workbench) there's just a question mark as can be seen on the attached screenshot.

I am not sure, though I assume so. I will check this afternoon once I get off work.
It still does, yes.
Same issue on 12.04, though i’m seeing the Duke Java icon for Minecraft’s window and taskbar entry.
Yes, it is. I updated the version to Launcher version 1.3.1.
Thank you for reminding me, I've admittedly stopped checking up on it since I imagine it's not very high on the priority list.

Sort of. It doesn't automatically use the correct icon. It does, however, actually have a WM_CLASS variable, so one could make .desktop files to actually force it to use the correct icon if he or she wished. However, the variable is "Minecraft 1.7.4", which means you would have to manually edit the file every time Minecraft received an update, which I'm not going to do.
Frankly, I don't care anymore. There's no point in me editing this "bug report" every few months when no one ever actually looks into it or takes it seriously. And it's clear that Linux support isn't a priority for Minecraft at the moment. So forget it, I'm not going to be "updating the affected versions" anymore, there's no point. It's clear no one with the power to do anything about it cares, and no longer do I.
This could be an issue for me, because sometime in March, I am going to be switching from Windows 7 to Ubuntu 13.10, and if this issue isn't fixed, who knows what issues Ubuntu and Minecraft will offer?
I am not able to confirm for version 1.3.10.
Warm regards, Liam Whitt.
EDIT: I am not going to switch to Ubuntu due to some programs not being supported on Linux.
Well, the game itself works fine because it's a JAR. But I wouldn't expect any "advanced features" like the Twitch streaming functionality or minor fixes like these for the platform.
Edit: Also, completely unrelated to Minecraft, if you're planning on installing Ubuntu from scratch you might as well honestly just wait another month and start fresh with 14.04 in April. Of course, updating to it from 13.10 shouldn't be a problem, as that's what I'll be doing, but some people like to start fresh.

It’s a bit complicated, the launcher loading screen (that’s just text debug info) has the JDK Duke icon, then the launcher loads ‐ current launcher 1.5 has a Minecraft icon for window and window selector; once loaded into the game proper, Minecraft application 1.7.9 has crafting bench icon for window and window selector. 14w30c is the same, crafting bench icon.
Can’t test on the other platforms, is that how it should be?
This is still the case in Ubuntu 14.04, Minecraft 1.8. Although it's not the launcher that has no icon, but the game. Should I make a new report?
Yes, make a new ticket in the Minecraft bug tracker with a reference to this ticket.
Is this still an issue with the latest version of the launcher? If so, please comment on this issue so we know if this is still a valid report.
