Hitting a mob or object while sprinting breaks your sprinting streak.
Further explanation
While you are sprinting, successfully hit any mob or player make you walk again.
Why is this a bug?
On PC, you will not slow down (Ctrl + Forward) when hit a player while sprinting.
Have not tried Forward + Forward, if the result is different from Ctrl + Forward, this may also be PC sprinting exploit. (Sprinting never breaks)
This could however be wrong. Check and test: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Sprinting
Step to reproduce
1. Start sprinting and hold your sprint.
2. Hit a mob or player.
3. Check out if you are still sprinting.

Confirmed on iPad Mini iOS 8.1 0.12.1
Confirmed on pc version 1.8.x
Ender SMan This is a bug being reported on Pocket Edition and Win 10 0.12.1 - not the PC version 1.8.x
Seems we have directly conflicting bug reports See
MCPE-11021. Perhaps there are other conditions involved that break the sprinting streak for the users on this ticket? On PC, holding Ctrl and Forward makes you sprint, and hitting anything WILL NOT break your sprinting.
Need to be checked, again.
Collision with another player should STOP your sprint by design.
If it is not working correctly it is caused by collision being disabled for some reason.
PC issue: Please do not comment here on bugs that occur in JAVA version of the game, it has separate project.
On that matter: Entities collision was working in the past, later, by mistake it was removed. Update 1.9 is bringing it back, so we can assume it should be present in PE as well.
Collision with blocks, mobs, players and attacking and sneaking should break your Sprint.
Mojang then why don’t window 10 sprint break when hitting and why in server it work just fine
