Sometimes the furnace will not cook or smelt anything no matter what. It seems you have to restart Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition for it to work again.

A fix for this issue will be implemented in the future release. I am afraid that we do not have a date for this update at the moment. Please, do not report this issue for 0.13.0 anymore.

For me I have to uninstall then install the game again.
