Too many mobs
Too many mobs. I know that someone mentioned this in the Minecraft Multi-Player discord server, although I cannot find it. I am experiencing this issue too: While in easy difficulty, there are an absurd number of hostile mobs that spawn in a tiny area. As you saw in the first picture, I killed 19 creepers in a tiny area. In the other two screenshots, you see how many spiders, skeletons, and zombies there are, and in the third you see easy difficulty. This poses a problem for survival players, and is annoying for me, as they also spawn *inside* of my buildings (in picture number 4, you see my skytrain system). I am hoping to get this second issue fixed fast, especially creepers spawning inside and destroying my hard work...
Side note: I need difficulty on so I can have guardians in my zoo.
Created Issue:
Double whammy
I know this has been mentioned in other issues: rails can fly. Previously, it seemed, rails had to be placed on top of a block. that is still the same. But, previously, when you broke the block under the rail, the rail broke too. In this case, the rail is staying floating. I assume this is a small bug that appeared in 1.2.0.18 and will be fixed in the next beta, but I am posting the issue anyways.

For comparison, here is a picture of my single player survival world's pens and barn.
I have had these pens for at least 8 months, since before the BTU. Last summer there was a bug that caused too many passive mobs to spawn (MCPE-25161). I had tons of unwanted animals trapped inside my perimeter, which I had to keep killing just to get them out of my face. I still have chests full of meat and drops left from that, so I've had little reason to kill any of my own livestock. Nevertheless, as the picture shows I'm not losing any to despawning as far as I can see. Inside the barn there are 6 stalls, in 5 of which I keep horses and donkeys, none of which has despawned. In fact, even.new horses and pigs which occasionally spawn within a stall have not despawned for me.
So my farm seems to work just the way I want and expect it to. I don't know why other people's don't, but maybe they'll see something in my screenshot that they can try to replicate themselves and it will make a difference. (For instance, most people only use a single fence gate, whereas I use a double gate. With a double gate, mobs can't ever pathfind to the outside as long as I always leave one gate closed when I go in and out. Who knows? Maybe the problem is that yours DO pathfind outside the fence but can't actually move there...until you reload the world, because entities are loaded first and can move around before the fences generate in.) If somebody can find a way to reliably reproduce OR avoid this problem, it will be a big clue to helping the developers solve it.

Thank you for editing, I was planning on doing just that, but you beat me to it!
I am having a big problem with this in my Survival base, normal difficulty, render distance 24 chunks. It started with 1.2.0.18 and continues in 1.2.0.22. I kill all the unwanted mobs (outside my pens), but a few game days later they've built back up.
Screenshots. Overview shows my whole base looking north.
Facing East and Facing West are from 2 days ago. These were taken from a Creative mode copy so I could get shots from a height. I have drawn in the chunk boundaries fairly accurately (with 1 mistake erased).
After taking these pics I killed all the mobs, about 80 of them. The remaining 3 screenshots are from today, maybe 10 game days later. Note that the "From perimeter" pictures are too far from my pens for my livestock to render. The "From closer in" picture shows that the pens are actually quite full.
The mobs just seem to accumulate over time until they're literally crowding each other. I have tried watching from my roof, but the spawn rate seems normal. This leads me to guess that the problem may be that they're not depawning and the mob caps aren't being observed, or maybe they are depawning (making room under the mob cap) but not actually going away. I have tried moving 250 blocks away for a few minutes, which I believed should make them despawn, but they don't. Passive mobs don't despawn if they have interacted with a player, but as far as I know the meaning of "interacted" has never been specified in detail. Would encountering my perimeter fence qualify as "interacting with a player"? What about me being close enough to make them look at me?
During the days they were building up I have been mostly within about 5-6 chunks diagonally away from the overpopulated chunks. Strangely, the crowding only seems to happen in the chunks to the north of me. There are fewer mobs south and east, and my pens are in the west so they may be reducing natural spawns there.
This should probably be merged with
MCPE-25514.This should be fixed in 1.2.0.31, can anyone confirm or deny that?
I have confirmed it, but I didn't see anything relevant to this in the changelog. Why do you expect it to be fixed? Is there another source for fixes I can cite when mentioning this was fixed on the wiki?
BTW, this fix may also have fixed
MCPE-25514andMCPE-14467. They weren't identified as dupes, but I think they all had the same root cause. This report is especially about too many Creepers spawning in a tiny area.
Hi There Bemoty,
It doesn't seem to have been fixed, here's another screenshot
Sorry, the previous screenshot was unclear. Here's another
While there are fewer creepers than before, there is still a very large amount, considering it's peaceful mode... Perhaps the limit needs to be lowered?
This issue only mentions hostile mobs, but the spawn rate of animals is higher than usual too.
See my comment and screenshots above. They were all about passive mobs ("animals").
Spawning is a very complex system and difficult to balance, because it depends on so many variables (difficulty, lighting, biome, block type, mob cap, altitude, distance from player, etc.) and is arguably the prime contributor to the gameplay experience in Survival. But don't worry, the devs are actively working on the problem right now, as hard as they can. Our best strategy is to be patient and give them the time they need to fix it right, because if we.pressure them to fix it fast it will probably just end up worse.
Cleaning up old tickets: This ticket has not been updated recently (1 year+) so is being closed as Cannot Reproduce. If you feel this is still a valid issue then please comment, or create a new ticket following the Issue Guidelines.
