Summary:
An end portal item can be obtained when the end portal blocks are destroyed using the setblock command
Steps to Reproduce:
- Stand above an activated end portal block, without travelling through
- Run the command /setblock ~ ~ ~ air 0 destroy
Observed Results:
An end portal block item is dropped, named tile.end_portal.name
Expected Results:
No end portal block/items should be obtainable.

Nope, no mods, just using the command you provided, it results in the end portal block disappearing, not even an item drop, Tested several worlds, including my glitch experimenting world, and no result.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? The portal block is not dropping when I run the command provided above
I’m in 1.10.0 rn and it’s still working for me, I have no idea why it’s not working for you. Make sure that you try running the cmd on the exact coordinates on the end portal block and use the command I put in again(/setblock (your coords) air 0 destroy). Make sure if you have your coordinates like this ~ ~ ~ if your 1 block above the end portal do this for the coords ~ ~-1 ~. Also make sure that you put the cmd in correctly, and change the coordinates to the coordinates where the end portal block is in your world. I hope you find this helpful.
Also, why does the end portal even have an inventory texture? Under the Expected Results section, it states that No end portal block/items should be obtainable.
I guess it's because mojang is retexturing everything, and since end portal / end gateway just had the old "upd ate!" dirt texture...
