Bed: Respawn at the wrong height?
This has occurred to me twice in limited testing, but cannot consistently reproduce.
Bed placed and slept in room inside bottom of mountain [see attached image].
Killed next day by creeper (thankssss!) and respawned 30 blocks or so higher in house on top of mountain , where there is only a chest, no bed. (chest placed after bed, for reference).
"Odd" spawn position is relatively close, could be exact, to bed x-y coordinates, but much higher z elevation.
Later, exited game, started again and my spawn point was similar – up on the mountain near the chest, but this time "outside" near the top of the ladder.
Again, no bed up here.
Have since exited and restarted and spawned correctly near bed. Will attempt to reproduce by dieing again, but have not yet with limited playtime.
World created in 0.3.3, updated this morning to 0.4.0.

Probably related to MCPE-51. The behavior described in 51 can happen with or without a bed, although the bed seems to help get the player into a low enough space to trigger the bug.
This issue is likely related to MCPE-51.
I had my bed at the edge of the world. After I was killed I ended up high in the sky, just outside of the map. When I stepped into the world, I dropped to my death again, and respawned back in the sky.
I found a work-around to get out of this loop. If there is water, or a really high mountain at the edge of your world, you can walk around the map and jump on their.
This is the same as MCPE-51. I'll comment there.
@Michelle, the edge of the world is made of "invisible bedrock." In creative, you can fly up at the edge of your world, then fly above the invisible bedrock and stand on it. I think if you could see the invisible bedrock, this behavior wouldn't seem any different than MCPE-51, and I'd bet money that when 51 goes away, this goes away too. Of course I could be wrong; in that case we can reopen this. ![]()
BTW I think you are right, I don't think this has anything to do with beds specifically, I suspect beds just provide better conditions for reproducing the bug.
Duplicates aren't necessarily decided by which ticket was filed first. A later ticket might provide more information or have some useful comments, or one of the developers may have just happened to notice the newer ticket first.
What I'm trying to figure out is how this is any different from MCPE-51. ![]()
@Eelco de Lang, yeah, I basically picked this cause had comments trying to figure things out. I acknowledged your report though, and left a comment about it
.
@Do: MCPE-51 was marked as fixed, and this bug still occured, so I would say they were different ![]()
Can't argue with that! There was a similar issue to MCPE-51 that didn't involve beds (everything else was pretty much identical), I wonder if that's working now...
Sometimes, when quitting and saving the world while underground, the game vertically respawns me to the top surface when opening the world again.
Update by rplatham:
The most general description of this bug so far is: Whenever you reload a world you always appear one block (or part thereof) above wherever you last quit. How to reproduce: You can easily test this bug by quitting your world in 3rd person view and watching as the world loads you will drop 1 block. Try it in creative flat to see what I mean.
The bug becomes a problem when you quit and the block(s) directly above you are solid. Upon the next load, you will spawn at the next available 2 block space moving upward from where you should have spawned. Again in a creative flat world, put a block above you, quit, reload and you'll be on top of that block. This works all the way up to the build limit where you spawn with your lower body inside the top block.
Two closely related and much older reports are MCPE-51 (assigned to Johan) and MCPE-330 (unassigned).

Happens to me too. Usually seems to happen when you exit the game in a tight area with a low ceiling... Sometimes I can get it to work over and over, other times I cant get it to work at all. Haven't found a way to reliably recreate it every time.
This has been reported on minecraftforum.net a few times.

MCPE-11Can someone confirm that you can always see the sky where you spawn? Like there can't be any roof above you?
You spawn next to the last place you slept. I have beds under shelter, and I always spawn next to it. The room is not completely fenced off though, there is sky visible through a wall or ceiling 5-10 blocks away from the bed. Edit: Actually I believe I have spawned way above my bed at times, about 50 blocks higher than my bed, even above the tree.
My house is embedded in a very tall mountain. It has 3 floors directly on top of each other (inside the mountain), room heights=3 blocks tall.
Bottom floor: bed in corner, and chest right next to pillow.
Middle floor: bed in corner, and chest right next to pillow.
Top floor: totally empty in that corner, but I do have a bed about 12 blocks away.
If i'm on the bottom floor, and click on the bed to sleep, then later die, I somehow respawn on the top floor, 2 floors above my bed (note that there is no sky on the top floor, it's still inside the mountain).
I moved the bottom floor bed 1 block further down the wall (still touching 1 wall) so it wasn't next to the chest. The problem still happens.
I moved the bed 1 block away from the wall (not touching any walls), and this time it respawned on the middle floor!
OK, I'll do some testing this week.
So yeah, looks like it's working again now. We'll see if it works when you have tried it out as well
this is the same for ipod touch 4th(ios6) however it occurs aswell as when you leave the game when you are underground you will spawn above ground when rejoining
The y-coordinate is the height, not the z-coordinate.
I'm not sure which of these duplicate bug reports to add to. My cliff house is inside a tall hill is similar to Troy Parry's. The main part has at multiple levels dug out with a floor/ceiling between them. There are more than three levels at certain points, if you count the mines down a stairway going back and below. An indoor farm area stretches back as the only floor in that area, with an XP farm built above it with a drop chute of 21 blocks dropping into the farm area for XP 'collection'.
Many times I've respawned on opening after saving, with my character located a floor level above where I had saved the game. As in the next dug out level above where I'd saved.
Where I stood while saving is the 'sweet spot' roughly 20 blocks below my mob spawner space and below one of it's corners. When I stand there I seem to get more drops from the xp farm (?they detect me and fall off my 8x8 spawning platforms into 2 channel water drop best?)
(could be a few blocks off - I was distracted fighting spiders in the dark!)
Understandingly, I won't be saving the game while standing under the xp farm again until this bug is fixed!
This occurred most recently on 1.5.2, Bedrock Edition (windows 10) and on earlier versions before that.
(The usual place I save is located in my main front living room area. I've never respawned above that, strangely. There is a room above that but no other caves above that (I know there are no caves as I started the world as an 'old' world type, so 256 x 256 area around worldspawn (where I made my base) had no caves generated (useful when making the xp farm). Later I converted it to infinite and the rest of the world generated as normal.
It only seems to happen at some locations in my base, intermittently.
EDITED as smileys didn't go through.
It happened againin Bedrock 1.6 on Windows 10 when I saved in the same xp farm sweet spot (as above).
I saved the game with my player located at 286, 66, -2.
I spawned this time, (not inside my XP Farm phew, but ontop of it), at around 286, 92, -2.
It happened again, this time in Bedrock 1.6.1. I saved and exited the same survival world as described above (multi-level base dug into a large extreme hill).
This time, I saved in the top of base Nether tower and spawned on top of it.
Saved player location: 297, 98, -4,
Spawned player location: 297, 104, -4,
(EDITED to fix formatting)
