Snow layers on barriers
In the 17w18b snapshot, I seem to be able to place snow layers on barriers. I cannot replicate this issue in 1.11.2, so it's a snapshot thing that can lead to barriers no longer being completely invisible. Aside from being able to place the snow manually, it will also form automatically in snowy environments.
Steps to replicate:
- Open the game in the 17w18b snapshot and enter or create a world with access to cheats.
- Get a barrier block and place it down.
- Place a snow layer on top of the barrier.

In both 1.12.2 release as well as 17w50a, snow layers can be placed as well as forms naturally when it's snowing in according biomes on top of Command as well as Structure Blocks.
I'd have expected that blocks which are only obtainable and accessible via Creative means would not be affected by anything as usual (e.g. also explosions, fire).
Apologies if this was already reported, I searched around but could only find MC-117063, snow layers on barriers, which is not WaI according to Mr. Broes on MC-2813.
Thank you for your report!
However, this issue is Working as Intended.
The report you have submitted is working as intended: as per the fix of MC-117063 and this comment by [Mojang] Grum (Erik Broes).
Please note, that mechanics of the game may change between updates.
Things such as graphics, sounds, world creation, biomes, redstone, villagers, and animals may not work the same in current versions.

It is intended that snow layers should be placeable on barrier blocks. If it can not be placed on a barrier block in 1.11.2, then it's 1.11.2 that is glitched
I disagree. The purpose of barrier blocks is to make an invisible barrier, ceiling, etc. Torches and other things can't be placed on them so snow shouldn't be either. At the very least snowfall should not accumulate on them as if a custom map uses them in a snowy area it looks incredibly weird to see snow layers accumulating on what appears to be air.
Torches and other things CAN be placed on barriers. If you are unable to place stuff like buttons and torches and snow layers on barriers then that is the bug. Not the other way around.
Not working as intended.
Oh. My bad, then. But I'm still pretty sure the fact that stuff like torches and rails can be placed on barriers is intended, with snow layers being one of the few exceptions.
