The back of a wild axolotl color variant are off-centered. This was fixed in Java 1.18 pre-release. (MC-234039)
I'm not sure whether this is intentional or not, but I can confirm this. Just to clarify, this can only be seen with brown axolotls.
Yep, it only applies to wild axolotls.
Can confirm in 1.18 Pre-release 2.
