The Bug:
Pointed dripstones can generate floating when generating next to ancient cities.
This is caused by the fact that pointed dripstone can get replaced during world generation when generating next to ancient cities, therefore resulting in floating pointed dripstones.
Here is an example:
Seed: -736641027098744019 Coordinates: /execute in minecraft:overworld run tp @s 175.14 -51.00 461.31 -27.00 11.55
Steps to Reproduce:
- Generate a world with the seed provided above and teleport to the given coordinates.
- Look closely at the pointed dripstone.
- Take note as to whether or not pointed dripstones can generate floating when generating next to ancient cities.
Observed Behavior:
Pointed dripstones can generate floating.
Expected Behavior:
Pointed dripstones would not be able to generate floating.

I was able to reproduce the floating dripstone with the coords and seed provided but no sculk generated under the floating piece which makes me suspect the it is due to the ancient city generation then sculk generation. I've updated the report to reflect his.
This is caused by the nearby dripstone caves biome spreading into the ancient city thus making this ticket related to
MC-249846.Can confirm in 23w03a.
