Sprinting/landing on floating bottom trapdoors produces no particles
UPDATE MC-1691 HAS BEEN REOPENED THIS IS A DUPE
When sprinting/landing on floating bottom trapdoors, there are no particles. Trapdoors in all other configurations produce particles when sprinting/landing. Related bugs are MC-1691, as the game is likely attempting to show the particles of the air below, and MC-8820, which is similar.
What I expected to happen was...:
Particles to appear when sprinting on bottom trapdoors when there is no block underneath
What actually happened was...:
No particles appear
How to reproduce
- Place down trapdoors of any type in the air (no blocks below them at all). Make sure they are on the bottom and not the top, and keep them closed.
- Sprint or fall onto them, no particles appear (they do appear if the trapdoor is opened/on the top of the block)
Environment
Windows 10
Java 17

duplicates
Closely relates to MC-122547 and MC-221568. Visible due to MC-207949, MC-222212 and MC-261437.
Light blocks themselves are intended to be invisible to all but the mapmakers utilizing them. Therefore, the existence of these particles is nonsensical. The expected behaviour would be for it to act identically to air in this case, not producing particles.
The bug
MC-1133 was fixed in 23w18a, meaning that structure voids can no longer produce particles when fallen on from a height by falling on the edge of a different block. However, it's still possible to get them to produce particles by falling on top of them in other ways.
How to reproduce
- Place a structure void
- Place a boat in the structure void, or a carpet on top of the structure void
- Fall on top of the carpet or boat from a sufficient height
Expected results
Falling on top of the boat would produce either no particles or particles of the respective wood type. Falling on top of the carpet would produce particles of that carpet.
Actual results
We get particles of the structure void instead.

dupe of
MC-1133how is this a duplicate of
MC-1133? If this is a dupe it might as well be MC-1691, but as that was resolved as Works as Intended, I created a new bug report for this issue since it seems like the particles should appear as they do when sprinting/landing on trapdoors in other configurations (bottom opened, top closed, top opened). Can confirm this affects 1.20-pre4, and that it also affected prerelease 2. Very obviously not a duplicate of
MC-1133since it was fixed and this has not been. It may, however, be a duplicate of MC-1691 as mentioned. In addition, no sounds are produced either, but that would probably come under MC-8820.If this does end up being a duplicate of MC-1691, it might be worth having that ticket reviewed given recent events.
MC-1691 Has actually been reopened now, and this issue does in fact duplicate it.
The falling and running particles are gotten from the block below the bottom trapdoor, which is air. That's why the particles are not present.
